Hey guys. Decided to unpublish some old work involving real people. As I’ve grown older, the worse I feel about these things. Idealizing someone is extremely wrong, and though my writing is just for fun, the longer it sits published the longer I feel like I’m fuelling obsessive cultures and allowing people to act creepily towards creators they like. Creators are just people at the end of the day, and by putting works of fiction out there about them, especially to a lot of younger people, is unhealthy and sets up a culture of obsession and large expectations that can really mess not only fan, but creators up as well. For those of you who still enjoy fanfiction, I’d encourage you to take a step back and think about it for one second, and realize what it can do to peoples lives. Any work I write about fictional characters will remain though. Given all of this, I think I’m officially retiring from Wattpad. As I’ve said, my taste for this site and the culture it fuels has turned sour and I really just want to get rid of this app from my phone. Thanks.
