Hi all! I'm an aspiring fantasy writer who is currently working on the first of a four-part epic series.
My influences come from a variety of places. Being a fantasy writer, I have taken to George RR Martin's 'A Song of Ice and Fire' series to the point I regard myself as somewhat of an expert, haha! That's not to disregard my Tolkien influences, however.
My other big influence has to come from gothic fiction. I've always been fascinated by gothic beasts, from 'Dracula' to 'The Bloody Chamber', there's something exciting about these horrific creatures. That's what I'm trying to do in this novel - applying the beasts we are familiar with from the Gothic era in a medieval/early modern setting.
I've also greatly been influenced by dramatic plays and tragedies. Most notable of those are practically every play ever written by William Shakespeare and 'Doctor Faustus'.
All of this, I'd hope, combines to make the world of Vassilia I present to you through 'The Blade of Everdawn' series. Enjoy!
