Hi! I live in my own little world, but it's ok, they know me there. What I need is people outside my world to critique my fiction. If you truly like something I write, please tell me. But if you hate it, please tell me why--not your style? characters too one dimensional? not realistic? To be clear, don't be mean just to be mean. But I look forward to helpful opinions you have.

I have no practical skills such as changing a tire or hooking up a Blu-Ray player. My editing skills, however, are pretty good. I'm an attorney (a character that no one ever gets right unless they've been one, by the way). I hesitate to admit I am an attorney because people generally hold a negative view of them. But, like witches, they can be misunderstood, and the first question you should ask an attorney upon meeting her is whether she is a good witch or a bad witch. I am a good witch, and I have the pink tutu to prove it.

As proof of my editing skills, I offer the following. I was Editor-in-Chief of the law review during law school and I was the teaching assistant for the head of the legal writing department. I've published in a law review (something very few attorneys get the opportunity to do). Now, clients pay me a lot of money to write and edit all day everyday. Far from thinking I am the alpha and omega of editing, I am humbled daily by the incredible writers I encounter in my field. I care very deeply about the writing craft.

I say all this because, if asked to critique your work, I will. But I will be more like Simon Cowell than Paula. I will ask for your intended audience and your goals with your piece, so be prepared to answer. If you are looking for a pat on the back, you are asking the wrong person. If you are ready to hear the truth, however, the advice I give will make you a stronger, more effective writer. (And should you wonder if I made a mistake beginning some sentences with "and" or "but," message me, and we can have a chat about that grammar myth.)
