I write dark psychological fiction for people who love watching their favorite characters suffer.
I've been publishing fiction for more than a decade (dark urban fantasy suspense as Z.J. Cannon, dystopian novels and multi-genre short stories as Zoe Cannon). In that time, I've published more than two dozen novels and 50+ short stories. I'm taking a year away from my usual forms of publishing to recover my writing voice, and to gain some distance from the unhealthy-for-me attitudes toward fiction with niche appeal in some corners of the indie-author world.
I mostly write sci-fi and fantasy with suspense elements, set in or near the present day. Low to no romance, moderate violence, ultra high angst and pain (both physical and psychological).
Everything I plan to post here falls squarely into the whump genre. For the whump fans, these are the main tropes I write: interrogations, spy whump, lab whump, defiant/stoic whumpees, death whump, aftermath of trauma, ineffective caretaking, morally complex whumpers and whumpees, all genders of whumper and whumpee.
