In the newest chapter of the Buffy/Batman/Red Rider crossover serial, we start to glimpse what tore Ethan and "Ripper" apart.
          
          PART 6: “BE SEEING YOU.”
          
          Ethan turned thoughtful again, staring out at the crowd. “We’re all two separate people, aren’t we, Ripper? Like the divided god, Janus. One part knows the right thing to do and how to keep within the limits. The other part wants to play in traffic and see what happens.”
          He narrowed his eyes at the people laughing together, raising their mugs in toasts, couples nuzzling one another’s necks. His voice turned bitter. “And then there’s everyone else, who don’t even realize the dangers exist. That their lives could be snuffed out in an instant by monsters they assume to be fairy tales. Not a one of those fools realizing that they play in traffic every day. And one day, they’ll all get struck and buried, by the stuff of nightmares.” He stared back at the empty space beside him. “Never to return.”
          He stared back at the pub’s visitors, a scowl tugging at the corner of his lips.
          Then he grinned at Ripper, carefree once more. “Why not? Go tell the others. We’ll inscribe ourselves with the Mark of Eyghon tonight and start the ritual.” He raised his own glass in a toast. “Let’s play in traffic and see what happens.”

Dear Readers and Buffy fans,
          
          My last post was in October 2021, where I stated that, due to an emergency house move and the need to focus on writing my next Red Rider book, I had to postpone publishing the rest of my Buffy fan fiction crossover, REMNANT: BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER MEETS BATMAN AND THE RED RIDER. I promised I would finish it, and hoped to do so in the next few months.
          
          Unfortunately, our emergency house move was soon followed by a fire at our new house and the total loss of my car in a freak accident, followed by an awesome new job for my wife that led to increase responsibilities for me at home. All while completing my 5th Red Rider book, RED RIDER REVOLUTION, and completing some short stories for submission.
          
          In the end, I had to focus on other family and writing projects longer than expected, before completing this Buffy crossover serial. I was finally able to finish the 62-chapter story, however, and have slightly revised and updated the existing chapters. I will be posting new chapters to the story very soon, by at least April 2023.
          
          Thank you for reading and for your patience in waiting for the rest of this story, which I absolutely love! I hope you will, too!

Dear Readers,
          
          Due to an emergency house move and the need to focus on writing my next Red Rider book, I have to postpone publishing the rest of this story. I promise I will finish it, and it is currently about 65% complete. I simply have to prioritize my time to complete other responsibilities first.
          
          Thank you for reading, commenting, praising, and catching my mistakes. I absolutely love this story and I will be back to finish it, hopefully providing new ongoing chapters by January.

“I’ll be happy to pray for him, and the others you mentioned.” Father Vestille set the cloth aside on the table. “And also for you. Come here.”
          “Who, m-me?” Buffy stammered. “No, I’m okay. Not that I have anything against prayer. I mean, I love prayer. Just not for myself.”
          “You and Batman and the others are trying to stop this Mister Faust from raising a powerful demon, who plans to enslave the entire human race. I believe that calls for prayer.”
          Buffy shrugged it off. “Well, I didn’t really mean to call for prayer like that. I think I dialed a wrong  number.”
          “You’re fighting things that are bigger than you,” Father Vestille said gently. “And my understanding is that it’s something much bigger than what you usually fight.”
          “It’s all a matter of perspective, really,” Buffy joked. “Stopping the end of the world has kind of become our thing. We’re thinking of declaring it a national holiday. Post-Apocalypse Day. We all celebrate by throwing confetti and saying, ‘Yay, we’re still alive!’”

Outside, Buffy whirled on Xander and Willow. “Okay, what’s going on with you two?”
          Xander eased to the ground, raising his hands to help Willow down. “What? Nothing.”
          Willow barely met Buffy’s eyes. “Why would you ask if something’s going on when there’s absolutely nothing going on? That’s just – crazy.”
          “Because you both keep acting like you don’t know how to act around each other. I mean, one minute it’s as if you like each other more than ever. The next minute you’re trying to stay away from each other, so you don’t talk too much or get too close or –.” Her eyes suddenly popped wide, as Xander and Willow kept shifting their gaze away from Buffy.
          Like guilty lovers caught in the act.
          “ – whoa,” Buffy said, stunned.

Fifteen minutes later, Giles pulled out the keys to open his apartment door.
          “Wow, Giles, you have your own apartment?” Cordelia asked, amazed.
          Giles turned back to her, confounded. “Of course I do. Where did you think I slept?”
          Cordelia shrugged. “I kinda pictured you sleeping in the library.”
          “What?” Giles asked.
          “I mean, you’re there when we come in, you’re there when we leave. I just didn’t know you ever left.”
          “Gotta admit,” Oz said. “I had the same strange picture in my head. Though it makes no logical sense.”
          “Well, stop picturing anything,” Giles said. “We have work to do.”
          Cordelia cocked her head. “So wait. Do you have food and drinks and a television in there, like a real person? Or is everything in there English?”
          Giles turned slowly to face her. “Work – to do,” he said.
          Cordelia leaned away from him, raising her eyebrows. “Fine. Let’s get to work, Mr. Cranky-pants.”
