There is violence in the wind tonight
I can feel it deep within,
it wants to carry me away -
wet leaves scatter adrift
on the night air, and the streetlamp is a bemused sentry

*

I stand in the rain,
the laughing wind sinking claws
into my chill, shadows pattering into the street,
oozing into the gutter. The moonless night
shines in artificial halo,
my wan moon face caught in a beam
cries tears. Winds, have mercy,
do not lash me
with your gasps of sharp desire
