I carefully listen to Bert,
I felt furious, hurt, pity and broken.
I promised to protect her from that man but I did nothing, I was nothing, I’m useless. I started to cry again.
“Hey hey, calm down everything’s fine now, she’s out of danger now and Leo is now back to prison. He said.
“How can you be so calm about this huh?
Don’t you see her? We can’t even recognize her face, we don’t know how she felt that time. I snapped.
“Look here lady, I know it’s hard but if we keep acting broken or weak when we face her it will not help her,
she needs someone who’s strong by her side,
also someone she can rely on when she’s weak,
don’t you get it?
I think for a second, maybe he’s right.
I should not show any weakness while facing her.
“Okay I’m sorry.
“Now let’s get inside and wait for her to wake up,
it’s already morning why don’t you eat first and I’ll stay here by her side.
“No I’m not hungry, you could go if you want.

I walk towards the chair while waiting for her to wake up.

I was awoken by the buzz of my phone,
it’s my alarm,
I blink my eyes and look at Deanna’s bed,
she’s awake now. I run towards her and touch her hand.
“Hey Deanna how are you? It’s me Heather.
But she’s not responding her head turned to the side and she’s staring blankly at the window.
“Deanna?
Still silent.
“I think she’s still in shock,
I’ll call the doctor. Bert said.
He was beside me and I didn’t even notice him.
Then the doctor came together with nurses and went to Deanna’s side, so I move back.
“Hello Ms Cruz, I’m doctor Edward Jones,
I need to check your vitals to see if we need to run some tests.
I’ll check your breathing first.
The doctor went near to Deanna and hold her shoulder then Deanna looked at the doctor for a second and her eyes went wide and she started to scream.
“No no no no no!!! Please stop don’t come near me,
please stop it hurts.
She cried while panicking.
“Nurse give me the tranquilizer,
she needs to calm down. The doctor said
I never saw her act like that.
She’s terrified, I tried to run towards her but Bert beat me to it so I stopped and stared at them.
“hey baby, stop please calm down,
it’s me Bert. I’m here to protect you,
no one will hurt you again.
He said while hugging her.
