This story is set before Gladiator of Rome in 73AD where we learn about Frieda's turbulent journey to becoming a gladiator.

After her home was destroyed and her family slaughtered by the Romans, Frieda is taken captive to be sold into slavery. Transported across the water to Rome with other Britons, Frieda is separated from her sister and sold to Governor Domitius, a wealthy man with high aspirations for himself.
To gain favour with the emperor, Domitius transforms his villa into a well-guarded Gladiator school which soon gains an infamous reputation for its unconventional practices.
Can Frieda adjust to this new way of life, and will she ever see her sister again?
