Chapter Twenty-Seven
Charlie’s POV
It’s been a week since I started working at the tea house and everything is ok, I’ve been keeping up with my studies and I’m passing the quizzes and recitations. My mom was called for a business trip and she’ll be gone for at least two weeks so I can go home late without her knowing.
The only thing I’m adjusting to is the stress because everything is starting to pile up. I’m still finishing the projects that are due before the exams. There’s also an upcoming soccer match and the constant excuses I give Elise so she wouldn’t be suspicious about my job is starting to make me feel guilty, I haven’t spend that much time with her lately
I was sitting quietly at the library, studying, well, trying to study. I’ve been working overtime since mom left, I wouldn’t be able to work until 11 pm when mom returns. Because of that I’ve been sleep-deprived and I also don’t have time to study at home so I study at school whenever I can
I’m trying to study Geometry when…smack! Someone hit my head from behind
“What the?!” I looked around and saw Spencer standing behind me with an annoyed expression and I know why she’s like that
“You’ve been skipping practices!” she yelled
“Excuse me, this is a library, if you want to have a screaming contest please take it outside!” the librarian interjected
Spencer rolled her eyes at me and scoffed annoyingly before walking out, of course I ran after her
“Spencer! Wait up!” I yelled as I ran after her and struggling to put my things in my bag
Spencer kept walking, and she walked faster, so I ran faster and I finally caught up
“I’m…sorry” I panted “…really sorry”
Spencer sighed “Do you even know what this game means to the team? Half of the members of our team are seniors and you’re not doing the only one who’s counting on a soccer scholarship”
“I know that, and I’m really sorry, it’s just, I’ve been busy with-”
“With a job you’re not supposed to be dealing with right now” Spencer interjected “you said you got everything covered”
“I have, almost have but I just need some time to settle everything, I promise I’ll attend the practice later”
“Don’t promise, do it. Our game is this Saturday and we need you to be really focused”
I nodded “so, are we good? You’re not mad at me anymore?”
She sighed and punched me on the shoulders, “there, I’m not mad anymore”
“T-thanks” I spoke, trying to conceal the pain from my shoulder
Spencer smirked and patted me on the back, “see you later”
I nodded and we went back to our classroom

Elise’s POV
“I can’t today, I have soccer practice but I promise I’ll spend time with you as long as everything is done, I love you 1000x!! xo -C”
That’s what her reply said after I asked her if she wants to hang out with me after school
“She can't be with me again today” I sighed as I put my phone down
I know I shouldn’t be sulking because I told her to focus on school but I can’t help but feel like I’m being left out and I’m starting to tear up
