Shrugging my shoulders, I mutter, “Shut your hole, De Santis.”
“What did you say?” A tint of hardness curls around his otherwise neutral tone.
I pay him no heed, intent on pretending this is all a nightmare and I would wake up soon.
That doesn’t sit well with De Santis. He slides forward and grabs my tender chin between his palms. Apparently, this is not a nightmare. Fuck.
Lowering his head, minty breath blowing in my face, he grits out, “You will answer when I ask you a question. Why?”
His touch isn’t hurting, it is pleasantly mild but I detest him so I wrench my jaw away. “I wasn’t hungry. Is that enough answer for you?”
Quiet, those glinting silver eyes bore into mine, searching. The intensity in that stormy gaze has me in shambles, my nerves wracked in pieces.
Trying to appear unaffected, I narrow my own gaze. “You killed my appetite, De Santis.” The moment those words cross my lips, my stomach decides to expose the truth by grumbling. Shit!
“Your stomach says otherwise.” Without another word, he shifts away to recline in his previous position.
