All around, angels of high nobility mingled amongst each other, an excited buzz ran around the massive room. The king sat on his throne on an elevated level, looking as though the smile lighting up his face was a permanent addition to his physique.
Suddenly, he sharply stood up, causing a silence to hush the room as all eyes followed his to the goddess that was descending the staircase, her heels the only sound in the entire ballroom as her sheer beauty stunned everyone to silence.
Yennefer reached the bottom of the stairs, looking at everyone through galaxy-like purple eyes with a gentle smile blossoming as her dearly missed friend came to take her arm.
Erik took her arm, leading her to the dance floor where, with his hand on her waist, guided her around the room to the beat of drawn-out violins around amazed guests as the giggling pair glided more graceful than swans.
As the song came to an end, the king held out a hand to summon his daughter. When she reached him, he called for silence, "Good evening ladies and gentlemen. Tonight, I present to you my only child, Yennefer, Goddess of Seduction, Wisdom and War," who curtsied slightly at the introduction, "I hope that you all are as happy as I am to have her returned to us after so long apart."
Cheering enveloped the room at the end of the speech. As everyone went back to dancing, Azrael turned to his daughter, saw the guilty look plastered on her face, and sighed, "Do you really have to leave so soon, dear daughter."
"I am afraid so, father, I looked into the mind of Thor and saw a perilous danger that has surfaced on Midgard. I am afraid that I must help."
The great king visibly flinched at the mention of Midgard but smiled nonetheless.
"We must make the most of tonight then," after a long hesitation, he added, "And might we talk of arranging a marriage, perhaps to young Erik there. I need heirs, Yennefer, please do not look at me like that. It is my one wish that I beg of you to comply with."
"And yet one that I cannot agree to. I do not wish to be tied down and contracted to one man for the rest of my life. I crave freedom father, you know I do. And you will have heirs, I just won't be married to their father. And no, father, that does not mean they will be the result of a meaningless hook-up."
At the term, Azrael seemed confused at first, but managed to decipher what she meant.
"I cannot say that I agree with your choice, Yen, but your life is your own. Oh, you look truly stunning, by the way."
