Joseph pov. ( Woah different pov)
I left my house and walked to my car. Usually I like to walk but if I remembered correctly the address Aesop gave me was further than where I usually go. It's sad because I have a car and a phone I typically don't use them though because I don't really have a need to. I pulled up the address and realized it was a 20 minute drive from my house.
‘ How far did this kid run? How long? How fast? What happened?’
These questions filled my head as I realized whoever this person was Aesop desperately needed to leave. I started to drive to the address. Before I arrived I had to get something. After I achieved the things I needed I went to the house. Hopefully Aesop’s okay. I couldn’t care less if he looked around the house. Honestly I have nothing to hide. Well almost nothing. The only thing would be the specific camera that is currently with me. The last thing I need would be him being stuck in a photo. All the other camera’s are perfectly fine. I only altered this one. I brought it in case I needed it. Truly hope that isn’t necessary but now I’m not too sure. I had arrived at the house that I hoped was the correct place. I got out of the car and grabbed my camera and papers. As I walked to the door I noticed a sign on it reading ‘ Jerry Carl’s natural clinic and embalming’. I remember Aesop mentioned the name. Well I should be at the right place then. I knocked at the door awaiting a response. I Heard some shuffling and soon enough a older man probably in his 50’s answered the door.
“ Hello, my name is Jerry Carl. How can i be of service?”
He seemed oddly excited which made me uncomfortable.
“ I’m here to discuss the child that you were left in custody with.”
“ What about him?” He seemed to have a hint of annoyance in his voice but tried to act normal.
" Do you wish to still take care of him?"
" Not entirely, He was quite the brat. Couldn't get him to do anything. He said he wanted to be an Embalmer so I said I would teach him. He was supposed to continue when I was gone. Instead he argued and said what I was doing was wrong." He stayed calm but unhinged at the same time. He was clearly hiding something.
" Is he here?" I asked already know the answer.
" Who are you and Why are you here?" He questioned seemingly getting agitated.
" My name is Joseph and I'm here to transfer custody."
" You have no business interfering with anything that happens here!" His voice was getting louder.
" It's strange that you're still trying to hold custody to a child you don't care about. why is that?"
" That's non of your business!"
" Well if you're afraid of someone finding out something you're making this quite obvious."
" He's not worth anything to me other than a prodigy but it seems I failed!"
My eyebrow twitched. I could feel my patience and temper leaving. Still trying to stay calm.
" If that's how you feel then let him go. He's not even here anyway."
" You're not going to leave untill I Sign that are you?" He said gesturing towards the papers.
" That is correct. Now you can do it nicely or you can see what this does." I said bringing up the camera. He looked confused.
" You found him didn't you."
" Perhaps." While he sat down signing the paper I was secretly sending a message to the police to get them to investigate.
" I'm done. Now leave and don't return or say a word!"
He pushed me out the door and slammed it.
' well I'd say that went well considering what I thought could've happened.'
I went back into my car and looked at the time. 5:39pm. The school should still be open. I'm going to have to unenroll him anyway because he's not in the district. I went ahead and drove there to get it done now. I went into the front of to talk to the secretary.
" Hello, I'm here to unenroll Aesop Youngman. I'm his new guardian and he's not in the district anymore." She looked at my confused but then responded.
" Yes, but do you have any identification? You look young to be a guardian."
" I'm 34 and I do." I got my ID and pulled out the paperwork. She looked at it suprised but nodded
" Okay, thank you. What school are you planning to put him into?"
" Rose public schools." She laughed slightly.
" I should known where else would some rich guys kid go!? Ha! That schools has no sense of kindness not now and not ever!"
There went the last of my patients...
" Ma'am I have you know that while it is in a nicer part of town it's not just 'rich' kids there. Not to mention that just because we have money doesn't necessarily mean we are happy. Just how like someone with lower income isn't necessarily sad. Money truly doesn't buy happiness. Good friends will. You're school has been nothing but discriminatory and rude to kids who look different. Did you forget that everyone has emotions? You truly don't know what anyone is going through. You act like we aren't kind even though it's people like you who get us angry. We did nothing but live our life. Now if you could please finish this I need to get home."
She sat there shocked. Unable to respond she finished unenrolling him and I left. The drive back home took longer due to traffic. I decided to turn on music because the silence was bugging me.Aesop Pov.
It was now 6 and Joseph still wasn't back. It's been an hour and a half. Within that hour and a half I dance to the record that I put on, found a library that I didn't know about inside this house, and walked around in the garden that I found in the back yard. Now I was in the kitchen waiting for him to return. I wonder what he was doing. Then it hit me. He's probably trying to figure out what to do with me. He's going to get Jerry or put me in an orphanage...both sound horrible but it was bound to happen eventually. If only- my thoughts were cut off from the sound of the door opening.
" Aesop, where are you at?" He said sorta loud. This house was huge so I can imagine that if I wasn't here I might've not of heard him.
" I'm in the kitchen." I said
He walked in and sat down. I was honestly scared to ask what he did.
" So where exactly did you go?" I asked timidly
" Oh yes, sorry I was processing everything. Well, I went and switch the custody for you over and I unenrolled you from your previous school." I was completely confused...what did he mean switched custody? Did he mean changed who was going to take care of me? If so who? And am I switching schools too? I'm not entirely complaining if the schools better but that wasn't very descriptive... I think he noticed my confusion.
" I knew you didn't want to go back given how far you ran and just from what you told me and your actions. Also when I was there I could tell he was unhinged. I'm not going to force you to tell me everything. You can do that when you're ready but I'm going to take care of you now and you're going to go to the school near by." I was shocked. He actually did all that?! I was resisting the urge to cry but failed. Tears started to run down. I took off my make and started silently crying. I felt a pair of arms around me.
" It's okay to cry. Let it all out. I promise I'm not going to hurt you."
" Thank you!" I said while crying.
" Sshh relax. You're going to start school tomorrow. I'm going to cook something and then you can go to bed or watch a movie before or something if you'd like. Sound nice." I nodded.
He let me go and got up to cook. I sat there happy and nervous. After we finished eating; we ended up watching a movie because haven't seen any since I was 9. We watched a musical called Phantom of the Opera. It was actually really nice. I really didn't think I would ever have a time like this. If it weren't for that one event I might have never left Jerry's house. While the event it's self wasn't great the things that happened after because of it was. I fell asleep on the couch after.
