Ares Perspective:

"Hello James."

Her voice echoed in my ears and I was struggling to see straight. This is what he meant by the challenge coming from within.

But why her? He could have chosen someone way less threatening than her. I'm not sure if Austin was trying to teach me a lesson, or just being a real bitch.

She looked at me what felt like hours, but turned her attention back to the little boy in front of me.

'Come now, you can't be hurting yourself like that, Daddy will get mad.'

She took the boys hand and walked out of the kitchen, walking right through me as I stood there in the kitchen. I was frozen in place, I didn't want to move, but I knew I had to, or I'd never get over this nightmare and Leo would be lonely.

Turning around, I had noticed how dark it had got. It was just daytime a few moments ago, what happened?

I walked out the kitchen slowly, listening for my mom and the little boy. As I turned to go into the living room, chains started falling to the ground, and a gate blocked my entrance to the living room.

I watched as the chains fell above me, beginning to surround me. I reached out to touch one and immediately my hand burned as I touched it.

'Fuck, if one of these touches me for too long I'm in deep shit.'

I crouched low and looked through the gates of the living room, spotting my mom, with a different boy this time.

'Now now Gabriel, you know what happens when bad boys don't listen.'

I put my hand over my mouth as I remembered the moment my younger brother Gabriel, had died. I didn't dare look at the scene, so I turned my back to the gate and looked up at the stairs.

Having to squint my eyes, I noticed a the boy from earlier sitting on the stairs covering his ears. I finally realized that boy was me. I had known what was going on, but I didn't do anything about it. If I had tried to stop my mother what would have happened, would I have died along with him? Or would we have been free?

The questions continued to loom in my head as my father came down the stairs with me hanging on his arm.

'Now now James, you can't just sit on the stairs and enjoy the sounds. Why not join Gabriel instead?'

The room started to get darker as he continued to drag me, leading me into the living room. I looked around the room, allowing my eyes to cross the dead body of my brother, that was lying next to the wall. All he had done was break my mothers vase, and this is what he gets.

My father yanked my arm and threw me against the wall, forcing me to face him and my mother.

'Should we kill him too? Or have some fun?'

His voice drew chills down my spine, but I didn't move, I knew not to.

'We need a predecessor, James was higher in power than Gabriel anyway.'

They both snarled down at me, and my mother switched out her revolver for a heavy whip. Although I knew what was coming, I couldn't help but eye the revolver; knowing she probably played Russian Roulette, but with 6 bullets instead. Sick Bitch.

My father came up to me and took off my shirt, rubbing an ointment on my chest. This was the only humane thing they ever did for me, put ointment on my chest so my wounds would heal faster.

That doesn't make them any less of the animals they are though.
