"YO!"
You looked over your shoulder to the voice but immediately rolled your eyes and turn away. The voice of the boy laughed at your actions and took a big breath. "Awww, come on, genieee~!"
You ignored him, your eyes glue to your book. That didn't last very long because it was quickly snatched from your hands. You swiftly turn around to your friend, glaring at them. "Sero!"
Sero let out an airy chuckle as he slowly flipped through the book. His regular rectangular eyes were droopy, as if he was intoxicated. His posture was very lax, his regular school uniform wrinkled. You rolled your eyes once you realized he was high. He ignored your cries, "Genie the poet~! Has a nice ring to it, d-don't you think?"
You cringed at his slurred speech, taking back your book in the process. "No, I don't..and why do you still call me Genie?"
"Cause you always make my wishes come true!"
By wishes, he meant his grades. Sero wasn't your stereotypical stoner that you saw in coming of age films. He took his studies rather seriously. His grades were pretty average but literacy wasn't his strong point. Luckily for him, you were in his class and literature was YOUR strong point.
Whenever homework was assigned in your class, Sero would always come to you. Usually, you'd work on it together in the morning or after school but that's changed once you signed up for volunteer work at the library. Sero wasn't too happy about that.
Sero pouted at the thought of your new schedule and laid back down on the building top floor. (Fun fact: if you two had the time, you'd sneak up on any office building in sight and just stay on the top of it.) "Hey, who was that Mimi person you wrote about in there?"
"I'm surprised you can still read let alone understand what you're reading when you're hammered." you joked. Sero rolled his eyes at your sass, another trait he just loved about you. "Ha, ha. But seriously, who is she?"
"Well to start off, her name is Mina not Mimi." you corrected him, looking away from his gaze. Your eyes stayed on the scenery in front of you. The numerous buildings stretching for miles, dozens of cars zooming by, citizens roaming the streets who looked like ants. You took it all in. "She's in our grade. She came to sign up to volunteer at the library."
Sero's eyes widened, he seemed genuinely surprised. "Wow, someone who actually wants to be at a library for hours on hours doing nothing." You smacked his arm, as if it was a reflex. He laughed in response. "You know I'm right~!"
"Blockhead..." you muttered under your breath. Sometimes you wondered why you were even friends with this guy. Sero high and Sero sober were two vastly different people, in your opinion at least. When Sero was sober, was a friendly and chill guy who teachers would call hardworking. After show hours, High Sero was a little more...relaxed.
A lot more relaxed.
"Are you nervous?" You looked away from the city and turned to Sero, confused. "About what?"
"About working with someone new, Genie."
'Oh right.' you sighed, your eyes casting down on the very interesting building tile. Sero looked at you through the corner of his eye before looking back up at the clear blue sky. "What's she like?"
You took a minute before answering, "She's really jumpy and seems to get nervous pretty easily."
Sero hummed, "Soooo, basically you?" Again, you smacked him in the arm. Instead of laughing, he wince in pain and started to cry out in agony. "Ah! The pain! The horror."
You rolled your eyes, "That's what you get anyways."
