The Last Assassin

Chapter 3: The Escape

                 I look at the dead body of Oscar and try to take a step towards him. One of the older assassin's steps in my way. He glares at me and starts to walk towards me. I take several steps back. I look at other elder assassin's and they hold the same hatred look in their eyes. I back up into the younger assassin's who look as confused as me. Erin looks at me with fear.

               "You caused this!" The one on front of me named Eriz growls, "You came here and than he died. YOU CAUSED IT!" He draws his sword and steps toward me.

               Erin jumps in front of me. "STOP! He was training the whole day, how could he do that!?"

                "He didn't need to do it." He hisses. "But it happened only when he came." He pushes Erin out the way and charges at me.

               All of the younger assassin's jump out the way as he swings at me with his sword. I wouldn't fight him, so I dodge and block it with my hidden blades. I block the sword and spin around grabbing his wrist, flinging the sword out of his hand and dig my blade into the bottom right of his back, and release him allowing him to collapse to the ground. The other commander assassin's charge me. I block and dodge them left and right. Erin still stares at me. Edward comes up next to me helping me. Eric on the other side of the field with out movement watches with amusement.

                All of the sudden Edward yells out in pain. I turn around and see him collapse holding his side. The assassin's that were fighting with him turn to me and charge at me.

               I look at Erin. Her expression hardens. "Run" is the last thing she says as she gets in the way of the others.

               I take off towards the dark of the forest. I pull my dark hood over my head and put full speed in. I hear the yells of the other assassin's. behind me as they fight through and after a little go after me. I look back and see them far behind. They aren't not trying to catch me. They are giving me space for something. I look at whatever was in front of me and see some light ahead. Whatever that was, it is going to help me. I look around. The path and the trees are familiar, oh yeah, it was the route that Edward took me. I stop and look around finding the path leading to the camp. I was going to make it to camp if I was quick. I look back quickly and see them standing looking around.

               I take a quick turn and run for a hundred or so meter and come behind the main tent. I walk in through the back, slicing the cloth of the tent with my blades and look around stopping my attention on the table. There are many papers on the table, but in the middle lies the book that Oscar used and the map. I look around making sure no one sees me and take book. There is the map with several marks on it, all pointing to the oldest sections of Italy, France, Spain, and Greece. I take the map and roll it up putting it into my coat and put the book into my empty money sack. Looking around i look around for anything else useful, and find some weapons, a bow, two arrow quivers, a sword, and two daggers. Once I was done I look out the door and see some assassin's in the camp walking around blocking any way out of the camp unto the city. I came out the same way I got in and run into the forest. I run back to the path that I started on and look to the place where I last saw the older assassin's. Eriz was 20 meters away from me and turning towards me right in time to see me start run again.

                "There he is" Yelling he started after me but in that time I managed to get some distance from him. I look back and see them. They are several dozens of meters behind me taking that to my advantage.

               I jump up grabbing a branch and swing my self on it and started climbing. I grab the next branch and climbed higher and higher, faster and faster. As I got to the top I looked around. Trees were everywhere, dark, big, and heavy leaves where everywhere. I climbed down a bit and start to jump from tree to tree. This is what I was trained to do, flat ground is tough for me. I come from an area where trees where everywhere. I run on branches and jump from tree to tree. I hear the sounds coming closer.

               I jump out of the trees and come to a stop right away. Dead end. I came to a cliff. That's why they let me get so far ahead. I turn around and see them walk in. There are 15 of them. To many to fight. And they are covering my way to the forest. I back up to the edge of the cliff looking for any opened areas in their lined. Eriz in the front. He looks at my money sack and than at me. You can easily see the book outline.

               "The book." He says pointing at the money sack.

               I keep looking at him not making any movement.

               He takes out the pistol and aims at me. I look behind me just to see the ocean. The grey, cold, and unknown ocean. I hear the gun click to loaded and ready to fire. I look back. He grins staring at me. I jump backwards and heard the shot. Terrible pain explodes in my upper right back.

               I fall into the ocean unconscious.
