Taking care of Jack had become even worse. I mean I guess it could be worse, but for some reason he just feels like more of a handful than usual. Jack finally got potty trained we just now need to crate train him. I guess I should say room train him. Since Jack is practically Maxine's pet she keeps his food and water in her room and makes sure to keep him hidden when needed. The best thing I think is that Jack doesn't bark. Once in awhile he will perk his head up if he hears something, but he is always calm, just lays his head back down, and goes right back to sleep. However, I realize that Jack can't be cooped up as much as he is. He needs to get his energy out he seems very depressed. For a solution I have decided to start taking him on walks. In the morning as soon as I see Neil leave the drive way. We haven't told Susan a thing, but I think she has figured it out she just pretends to be clueless.
"Maxine!" I shouted her name. "Get up!"
"I'm up!" She yelled at me from upstairs. I was downstairs making a sandwich and cutting up an apple in the kitchen with Jack as he sat and stared at me as I added turkey to the sandwich.
"Okay, but only a little piece. You're too small for a whole slice." I said to him as I squat down and fed him a piece.
"Hey." Maxine greets me as she rushed into the kitchen her hair in a ballet bun and a braid wrapped around the base of it. "Are you making me breakfast..." She smirked teasing then snatched an apple slice from the cutting board.
"Hey!" I glared at her. "It's not for you." I snapped at her as I put the sandwich in a container.
"So you make yourself lunch now? Yeah right." She rolled her eyes.
"No."
"Then who's is it?" She asked sitting on one of the stools placed in front of the island where I was working.
Shit I should've lied and said it was for me.
"E-...Elizabeth." I kept my eyes on the apples I was putting in another little container.
"Elizabeth?" Max asked confused. "What is she some child?"
"Child?" I asked nervously. "Is this something that you would make for a child?" I stopped and looked at her anxiously.
She leaned her head back looking surprised, "What is going on? Is Elizabeth...special?" She asked unsure.
"Special?" I thought aloud. Is she special? I did tell her about my Father. I called her my queen. I held her hand. I kissed her. I want to hold her hand again. I want to kiss her again.
"Well..." Max shook her head at me wanting an answer.
"Its not your business Maxine. Put Jack away I'll be in the car." I told her.
"No work today?" She asked walking over to Jack quietly.
"No I have today off. If you want a ride home you will have to wait until after I'm done with baseball tryouts." I told her as I put the containers in a small brown paper bag with twisted paper handles.
"Can I go to the arcade and you can pick me up from there on your way home?" I sighed at her before replying. "Come on Jacky Boy." Maxine picked him up from under his arms and he licked her nose softly. I averted my eyes from the cute scene unfolding.
"Fine don't be late coming out and do you have to hang out with that boy?" I grabbed my keys.
"Why do you care Billy?"
"Because you are too young for boys and you shouldn't be alone with a boy." I told her seriously.
"We aren't going to be alone we are going to be in an arcade with other kids and the rest of our party. If you are going to be worried, you should worry about the nerdy thirty year old men that lurk around." Max said as she shook in disgust.
