Rangers Apprentice: A New Adventure

Chapter 1

A/N guys before you read on you need to watch the video to the side or the top! It's amazing! Also this book is set after the Lost Stories and we are officially reading this story as if The Royal Ranger will never happen until much much later and Alyss is still alive and happy.

Katelyn wandered through the trees, slipping into the shadows and back out again until she was in the very heart of the forest. The small girl reached a small clearing where she spotted a plump rabbit nibbling contentedly on a patch of grass. Katelyn reached for a stone next to her booted foot. She brought it up slowly, as to not startle the rabbit. But, before she could throw the stone an arrow shot out of the trees and pierced the rabbit in the neck. The rabbit let out a startled squeak before falling limp. The young hunter quickly melted back into the shadows and watched as a figure stepped clear of the trees and knelt next to the dead rabbit. Katelyn studied the figure and took in the mottled green and gray cloak as well as the massive long bow slung over one shoulder. Her breath caught in her throat as she realized she was studying a legendary Ranger. Her thoughts raced as she tried to identify the Ranger. The probability that it was one of the three rangers common around Redmont fief was high, it could be Halt, Will Treaty, or Gilan. Suddenly, the rangers head moved fractionally to the side, as if attempting to capture a sound.

Then, without warning a strong, gruff, slightly accented voice rang through the clearing," I know your there and if you don't come out I'll have to put an arrow through you."

Katelyn hesitantly stepped forward and into the dim light if the clearing. " How long did you know I was there?" She questioned.

The ranger tilted his head to the side as if considering wether or not he should tell me. " I knew you were there the moment I saw the rabbit, I sensed you moving, and so did the rabbit." he gestured to the lifeless body next to him, then continued," When you raised your arm I noticed you again and pin pointed your location. Then, I killed the rabbit to see what you would do. You observed and that's good, although, next time you want to hunt you might want to wear less flashy colors."

Katelyn looked down at her dull green tunic and brown boots and leggings. They weren't that flashy where they?

"Do you want to be a Ranger's apprentice?" He asked suddenly.

"Which ranger are you?" Katelyn replied with her own question.

The ranger rolled his eyes to heaven, " What is it with apprentices always answering questions with questions of their own?"

She shrugged, having no idea what he was talking about.

"Well, if you must know I'm Halt, but if you wanted to be an apprentice, you'd be Will's my bones are to old to train another one of you." Halt said, grimacing slightly as he rose from his crouch by the still untouched rabbit.

Katelyn thought quickly. Being an apprentice would be far better than scavenging in the woods for food, and after all, she needed a new start. Her entire family was dead, so she wouldn't be leaving anyone behind. Katelyn nodded thoughtfully and replied," I would love to be an apprentice."

Halt picked up the rabbit and whistled. A high piercing whistle that could probably be heard for at least 200 yards in any direction, but it was masked by a bird call. A perfect bird call. Suddenly a blur of motion came hurtling from the trees and a horse was butting his head affectionately against Halts shoulder. Halt reached up and swung lazily into the saddle ," We're wasting daylight. Lets go." He clapped his heels into the horse's side and they began a slow steady canter that his new companion just managed to keep up with and mind you, she still hadn't gotten her rabbit.

A/N Hellooooo!!!!!! Thank you for reading and yes you probably have seen this story before and don't accuse me of plagiarism because both accounts/ stories are mine I just kind of lost the password for the other one.... don't judge! Everyone loses things!!!! So yeah I'm re writing it how exiting! Nope not exiting at all.
