A/N: I worked really hard on this I hope y'all like it :)

Jess
"In the case of 5 year old Melody, Billie O'Connell will get full custody of the child. Jessie Bennet will not be allowed to see or visit unless she has a chaperone or until she is at least 3 years clean if any and all harmful drugs. Court is adjourned."

In that moment I felt like someone had reached down my throat and ripped my heart out of body. I couldn't speak, I couldn't move. I was frozen as tears streamed down my face.

I watched as Billie took Melody out of the courtroom and an officer had me escorted out.

From that day forward I didn't care what I had to do I was going to get better, I had to. For Melody.

As I was putting Melody to sleep I heard a knock at my door, confused I went to go check it only to find Jess standing there in the rain crying.

"Jess what the hell? You're not supposed to be here, you could seriously get in trouble."

"She sleeps with a nightlight." She said.

"What?"

"Melody, she sleeps with a nightlight on cause she's scared of the dark. And..she doesn't like the crust on her toast a-and make sure her eggs are cut small so she doesn't choke on them she has some trouble swallowing sometimes and she has medication she has to take every night at 8 o'clock to help her sleep." She rambled out, sniffling a few times. "And um here, I wanted her to have this from me."

She handed me this stuffed animal bunny. I hesitated for a moment before I slowly took it out of her hands.

"How is she?" She asked me, her voice trembling just a bit.

"She's okay. Adjusting you know."

I saw a faint smile creep on her face.
"Good. Okay, that's all I wanted to know. Please take care of her Billie."

"Uhh wait. Do you have anywhere...like to stay?"

"Not yet but you know...I'll just crash..somewhere." She tried to walk off but I gently grabbed her arm to stop her.

"Uhh you shouldn't be walking in this rain you could get sick. Come in, you can sleep in the guest room." Before she had the chance to deny, I brought her inside and took of her jacket, hanging it up on the coat rack.

"Oh and...before you leave tomorrow I'll let you and Melody get a proper goodbye. You at least deserve that after what you've been through."

She smiled as she wrapped her arms around herself securely. "Thank you." She replied quietly.

As much as I knew she shouldn't be here I couldn't help but feel sympathetic for her. I mean she has nowhere to go I couldn't just let her wander the streets all night. And she at least deserves to say goodbye to her only child.

As Billie got some blankets from her closet I found my way to Melody's room. I stood outside it watching her sleep peacefully.

"I'm sorry." I whispered before going to the guest room. Billie came in not long after.

"Okay here's some extra blankets in case you get cold." She set them at the end of the bed before standing there awkwardly.

The last time both of us were in a room we ended up screaming at each other.

"Umm...sleep well." She said before turning to walk out the door.

"Billie?"

"Yeah?"
