I felt a cool surface beneath me. The darkness that saved me was slowly getting brighter, until I saw nothing but bright blue eyes staring at me. His eyes. Why was he here? Didn't I get knocked out because of my father's wrath?
"What happened?" I breathed. I was so confused. His blue eyes were getting smaller, as I talked.
"You fainted." He said in a whisper.
"Oh" I whispered in a disappointed tone. Really? Today of all the days to spontaneously fall into darkness, he had to be here. Of course.
" Oh. " He said mimicking my tone.
" That's it? Expecting more ?" He asked, still concerned, but in a joking manor.
" I can't believe that happened." I sighed. I tried to sit up and found that he was hovering over me, preventing me from moving. His hands fled to my sides and pinned me there.
" Slowly," he whispered, now in my ear,
" Be careful, love."
I slowly got up and he moved to sit beside me. I felt physically fine, except for a slight tiredness. Emotionally, I was conflicted.
" Are you okay?" Dylan asked me. I sighed slowly, trying to collect my thoughts to form a coherent sentence.
He waited patiently, but I could see the uneasiness arise.
" A bit embarrassed," I whispered. His eyes narrowed,as if I said something wrong.
" But yes, I'm fine" I answered. I could see then tension in his face waver slightly, but it never fully disappeared.
" You scared the hell out of me." He sighed, shaking his head.
"Don't ever to that again!" He pleaded. I could see his worry and fear and relief all in one.
"I don't plan on it." I said, trying to joke, but my tone still sounded depressed.
He smiled his half smile at me. His hand never left mine. As he was watching me again, I slowly started to piece the conversation back together.
He was telling me about his family, and then I was talking about my mom. And then it happened. He asked about Him. I felt the queasiness intensify and tried to keep my face together.
How was I going to explain that?
This?
Surely he wouldn't bring it up, at least not now.
I turned to face him and he was still watching me. How could I be that interesting?
" Umm, I'm fine." I said quickly as I turned. He looked confused.
" I'm okay, so you don't need to watch me like I'm going to fall again." I clarified. He smiled his charming half smile again.
" That's not why I'm watching you." He said a little bit louder now. His hand was still on my arm, brushing against it comfortingly. My stomach plummeted.
Now I was totally confused.
" Then why are you staring at me?" I blurted out of pure curiosity. Then I realized I don't really want to know the answer.
" Don't answer that!" I said a half second later. And too quickly.
His devilish smirk appeared on his face. He shook is head back and forth slowly, smirk never leaving his face.
I rolled my eyes and decided to look towards the sidewalk instead of at him.
We stayed like that for a long time. I didn't dare look into his eyes and I was sure he was staring at me the whole time. My thoughts went in a hundred different directions from Dylan and his charming smile, to my father, and finally to Becca and Jerry and how weird they acted today. I decided to think about something else completely. I knew what I needed to do.
