does this make any sense? no am i still going to post this? probably not but yk what i tried OKAY
illumi had never been one for animals, mike was an exception to some degree of course but his parents never allowed for other pets.
"too much work"
"no time to take care of it"
"dirty"
"mess"
"assassins don't need pets"and illumi never asked. he never let on to anyone what he wanted oh so badly.
a fish.
all illumi wanted was a fish, a small one, that would be pretty but easy to take care of.
and he leaped at every opportunity he got, every chance to get a small, shiny fish in his possession.
so when he and hisoka began dating, and hisoka asked him to move in, he jumped.
more like scrambled and stumbled but at least he did something.
"illumi, would you like to move in with me, the penthouse is surely big enough for the both of us," hisoka had offered.
illumi thought for a moment, staring at the clown. "okay," he answered.
hisoka smiled and wrapped an arm around his shoulders, "i'm so excited, we'll have a wonderful time, won't we?"
illumi nodded, something taking up most of the space in his brain, one simple question. "can we get a fish?"
oh, wait, he hadn't meant to say that.
"a fish?" hisoka asked, raising an eyebrow. illumi nodded in response.
hisoka leaned back in his chair and gazed up at the sky, a dim blue with wisps of red from the barely setting sun above them.
"of course!"
illumi looked over at his lover, "you mean it?"
"if you want it, you should get it," hisoka said simply, raking a hand through illumi's hair.
three months later
hisoka looked down to his lap from the tv as he felt his phone vibrate with a notification.
illumi had left about a week ago on a mission, leaving him to take care of his precious fish
hisoka's eyes widened in realization and he sprinted to their bedroom, flinging the half open door into the wall behind it.
"fuck, fuck, fuck, what do i do? how could i kill his fish?" hisoka muttered to himself as he tapped the tank, hoping for the lifeless fish to miraculously wake up.
he picked up his phoen and searched through his contacts for someone to call, it was late, no one would even be up at this hour.
should he just call illumi and tell him?
no, he couldn't, that would break his heart.
kurapika.
he pressed on the contact and held the phone up near his ear, listening to it ring.
kurapika's household
leorio glanced to the night table where his boyfriend's phone had been vibrating non stop for about five minutes.
"are you going to answer that?" he asked, looking over to kurapika, who shrugged.
"it's probably a scammer or something," kurapika answered, picking it up. "oh, nevermind, it's hisoka."
leorio frowned, "what the hell does that clown want at this hour?" he said sourly, checking the time on his watch.
"must be important," kurapika reasoned, answering the phone call.
