Rejected

Spencer stares, his arms shaking once he realised whom that breathtaking scent belonged to, standing there as if he were frozen to the ground. His green eyes were blood shot, shirt tainted with gross mud while his lanky frame trembled uncontrollably.

His gaze raked on the alpha who slowly kept the drink in his hand away, their eyes staying interlocked throughout. The rest of the pack members, including the current alpha and his luna, were watching with their expressions perplexed, as they couldn't understand why the next alpha of their pack; who just turned eighteen, was frozen to the ground.

Spencer felt his head spin, his lips curving up slowly and he felt his heart stammer inside his ribcage. He inhaled a prolonged breath, drowning in the masculine yet heavenly scent of his mate, who just stood there with no response whatsoever.

Fuck, Spencer was dumb for being like this, dumb for having his heart pick up its pace for his bully who had done nothing but torture him all these years. Yet here he was, more than ready to forgive his mate on spot, as if his own life meant nothing to him.

Spencer was just a weak omega who was bullied, abused and unloved. So he knew very well that he didn't deserve the person the moon goddess had chosen for him to be with.. Domen.

The enthralling and handsome Domen, the heartthrob of the pack, the pack's most adored alpha. Spencer was beyond happy to have him, even though the said alpha had punched him till he bled, just a day before.

He could feel the confused eyes of the rest of the pack members who shot him judgemental looks, probably because of his torn out clothes.

Spencer didn't really have a choice in his wardrobe which was comprised of some plain white shirts and over used pants, he was a literal orphan after all, though he's actually an adult now.

But that's not the reason for the clothes he was wearing, to be this messed up. It's because of the fight he was dragged into, right outside the pack house by Domen's besties, who may or may not have intentionally flickered his wrist and gone, "Oops! Sorry, my mistake."

And when Spencer had tried to talk back, he was pushed to the ground and punched till he almost lost consciousness, tossing and turning in a pit of mud that spurted all over his clothes. To his luck, some elder stopped the fight before it could've become even messier.

But for now, Spencer decided that he shouldn't think about any other person and focus on his mate, Domen.

"Mate." he whispered, his feet moving towards the alpha who was silent, while small gasps left the rest of the pack members who were watching attentively.

Spencer opened his arms, a smile staying firm over his face as he walked more and more towards Domen, and the person in question was yet to make his move.

Weirdly enough, Domen did nothing.

"Mate." Spencer called once again, the fringes of his blonde hair curled down and the freckles over his nose being the first thing seen on him. Step after step, his body turned tense as he finally stopped, standing only a metre away from his mate, and Domen just stared while slowly leaning to a desk.

Spencer grinned wide, wondering if he could hug the man whom he now refers as his mate, once and for all. His hands were itching to grab the other, the omega in him was howling to be marked, and his heart was beating profusely, thinking about the things his alpha might do to him.

Domen just stared, finally parting his lips to speak.

"Dad," the young alpha started, his head moving towards the alpha, in other words his father, who was watching them carefully.

"About the arrangement you told earlier, I'm agreeing with it. Since I don't have a mate now, I guess it's better to marry our neighbouring pack alpha's son than wasting my time for a second chance that'll never come."

Spencer's eyebrows knitted together, unable to process what just happened.

He looked at Domen with his jaw slacked, seeing the young alpha smiling at his father, who looked equally taken off guard.

The older man's sight trailed towards Spencer, then looking back at his son weirdly.

"Son, what about that boy-" Domen cut his father off, tilting his head to the side.

"I don't have a mate dad." he uttered, his voice dreading with obvious sarcasm. Spencer tried to butt in, but before he could do so, his mate pointed at him and turned to him with a look of irony.

"He was already rejected to begin with."

And Spencer just stared, the wide smile he had over his lips curving down painfully slowly. His body felt like it had suddenly started malfunctioning, eyes stinging with emotions that overwhelmed him.

He watched as his mate tried to walk away, but he held the young alpha's hand, trying to get him to talk to him. But Domen only jerked his hand off, not sparing him a glance before walking away, leaving Spencer to clutch his hand that was smitten with the sparks of their mate bond and squirm in his place, while the others looked at him in pity.

Spencer brought his hands towards his face, not understanding what just happened, and not being able to take in the fact that the only person who would've stayed with him, had left him.

Why?

The omega knew the answer, it wasn't because of his rank. Plus, why would an alpha not want a mate of a lower rank, who would listen to anything he says and live under his commands, presumably an omega?

Of course, Spencer being an omega, wasn't the reason he was rejected.

It was because of looks.

Spencer squat down, the grief he felt was too unbearable to the point where he couldn't even cry. He just stayed like that, like a dead person; a corpse.

An abandoned, unwanted corpse.

He was rejected by the only person that was left for him. He wasn't needed anymore. But worst of it all was that..

It was his birthday.
