You exhale deeply, smoothing out your dress and looking up into the full body mirror. Tears began to form in your eyes. You couldn't believe that after just 5 years of being together, that you and Matthew would be getting married.A soft knock sounded at the door. "Come in." You yelled over your shoulder, staring at your reflection and twiddling your thumbs.
"Hey. Wow! Y-you look wonderful." Matthew's mother came in, dressed in a navy blue blazer, with matching dress pants and an off-white blouse, her hair tied up in a neat bun, with some strands of hair framing her face, a Sapphire necklace around her neck. You smiled, completely taken aback by her radiance. "You look great as well." His mother wasn't in support of your relationship when you first started dating, she was always speculating that you were only dating him for money, but, soon, after a couple of years, she slowly came around.
"Whatcha got there?" You asked, gesturing to the black velvet box in her hands.
She smiled, "an early wedding gift." She carefully opened the box, revealing a delicate, elegant pearl necklace. "Matty's father gave me these on our wedding night. So, I thought it would be only fair to pass them down." She carefully took them out and placed them around your neck, being careful to avoid it getting tangled in your hair. "Who knows," she said, adjusting the necklace slightly, "maybe you'll give them to your child on their wedding day."
Your cheeks turned bright red, you cleared your throat, "oh, I-I don't know if we're ready for kids just yet."
Matthew's mother chuckled, "don't worry, sweetie. I know that, I'm only teasing."
You breathed a silent breath of relief. Another knock comes from the door and your sister enters. "Hey, sis. Why aren't you with the other bridesmaids?" You asked.
Your sister blinks at you, completely taken aback but how beautiful you look. "Wow, it looks so much better than what it did in the bridal shop." She shook her head, "oh, uh, right. I just came to let you know that everyone is just about seated. We're ready to start in five minutes. Also, Matt wanted me to send you this." She said, handing you an envelope, before leaving the room.
You opened it, and saw that it was a handwritten letter.
"To my beautiful soon-to-be wife,
I'm writing to you since I am not allowed to see you or be in contact with you until the ceremony. "Bad luck" I guess, lol. But, I just wanted you to know that I am so happy that I met you. You were the bright light that was missing from my rainy days. You have brung me so much happiness, love and support these past five years. You were always there at my worse and at my best. You were my friend, my lover and now, my wife. I am so happy to be able to go into this next chapter of life with you. I wouldn't know where I would be if I hadn't met you when I did. You truly saved me from myself, and I am forever grateful for that.
I love you.
I know that I say it alot, but, I truly am in love with you. Your spirit, your grace, your humor, your aura ;) everything about you is so perfect and beautiful. I can't wait until I am able to hold you in my arms, to see you walking down the aisle, your beautiful eyes sparkling, looking as beautiful as you were when I met you, in your gorgeous white dress holding a bouquet of your favorite flowers, you biting your lip, trying so hard to hide that beautiful smile that I love so, so much. I can't wait to look into your eyes, holding your hands tightly as we recite our vows to each other. Crap, heh, I'm already starting to tear up as I write this. I can't wait to say "I do." To the most beautiful, most talented, most amazing person I have ever had the pleasure of meeting.
I love you, so damn much
Signed,
Your soon-to-be husband, Matthew"You couldn't help the tears that had begun streaming down your cheeks. Matthew's mother shook her head, a small on her face. "That's my Matt. Always knowing what to say." She quickly wiped her tears with a kleenex. "C'mon, I think it's time for the ceremony to start."
You nod, wiping your tears, "I-I think so too." You go over and link you arm with hers, grabbing the bouquet as his mother opened the door, leading to the corridor.
