The next morning I had to go to the library to meet up with Andi. Apparently, she and Nathaniel were once again fighting. This time it's Nathaniel's fault since he did not bring her in time for her curfew.

"I cannot believe he did it again.  I told him serval times and he still did not listen to me."

"Have you ever thought maybe you and Nathaniel should maybe just-"

"I am considering it but, I don't know."

"Well think about it. If you do decide to end it just know I'll be here for you."

"I think I will give him one last chance. I just hope he does not fail me."

I am proud of Andi. She is someone who I admire but she really has bad judgment when it comes to boys. I cannot tell her the truth about him. He is only going to hurt her once again. If I do then she'll never believe me. I just hate being a liar. I decide to talk to Nathaniel to persuade him into ending things with her.

"Hey, Nathaniel," I say as nicely as I can.

"Hey, Sofie. What's up."

"It's Sofia.  Can we talk alone?" Suddenly, all of Nathaniel's friends left us alone. "I'm here to talk about Andi. I'm worried about her."

"Worried about what? She's all good especially since she's with me."

"That's the reason. I am tired of seeing you treat her the way you do. You are nothing but a -"

Before I could finish my sentence Andi interrupts us.

"He's nothing but a what Sofia?"

"Nothing but a disrespectful person who does not bring you to your house in time."

"YOU!" She says pointing at me. "Do not have the authority to be talking to him like this nevertheless me." She storms away with Nathaniel.

The bell rings and I get there with speared time.

"Hey, there partner. Why the long face?" asks Ethan as I sit.

"My best friend is mad at me for trying to get her out of a toxic relationship. I do not want to see her get more hurt."

"If it helps, the best thing to do is to continue fighting for your friend. She doesn't see it now but she will see your efforts later and be grateful."

"I am trying to but it is just hard to see her give everything into a relationship that is going to impact her more negative than positive."

"You just have to let her realize the position she's in. No one can make a decision for her but her."

During the rest of the day, Andi ignored me and refused to answer my texts. Later that day, I decided to go talk to her but she hesitated until she finally let me in.

"Hey Sofia, look I am sorry for yelling at you."

"It's okay. I am just worried about your relationship with Nathan."

"I just know we should break up but I don't know who I am without him."

"You were you before him and afterward you will continue being you. He is nothing to you."

"Are you sure?"

"You are my best friend. No man or woman has the right to make you feel like there's no way to be you without them."

She says as she starts to cry on my shoulders. I stayed to comfort her until my mother called me saying to get home. I get ready for bed and I decided to text him.

"Thank you for your words."

"You're very much welcome partner. "

"I think she's going to do the right thing and break things off."

"If you ever need someone I am here for you."

"Good night."

"Nite."

I heard my alarm ring but I was not up for it so I snoozed it up to the point where I was running super late. Due to all the events, I did not realize my charger was not plugged in, and as soon as I looked at my notifications my phone died. Just my luck. I  yelled for my mom but she was nowhere to be found. I took a look at the microwave and it displayed 9:03. I looked out the window and I did not see my mother's car in the driveway. As I was about to go to school my dad pulls up and offers to take me. I rarely see him as he is usually at work all the time. I walked into Mr. Ray's classroom and everyone stared at me as if I had a look at me sign. I rushed to my seat where Ethan started whispering to me.

"Did you hear?"

"Hear what?"

"About that one dude Nat. Apparently, he was talking shit about his girl Andi when she walked in. My friend Isaac overheard that he was saying: she is not worth it and he is only with her because she is willing to do anything to save the relationship."

"HE SAID WHAT!"

I quickly storm out of the room and go try to see if was in her classroom. I burst in and did not see her. I thought to myself about where she could be. I searched in all the places at school that I could possibly think of. But the one place where she might be but I had to wait until school is out to go find her.

"Hey, are you okay? Mr. Ray asked me to come to look for you." Ethan said with a tone I have never heard from him. It was like he actually cared about me. But that can't be true.

"Yeah...no. Everything is not okay. That friend I needed advice on was Andi." I tell him as I try not to break down. He hugs me and reconfirms that everything is going to be okay.

After school, I went to our hidden spot in the little book store by the park.

"I heard."

She began to sob on my shoulder and did not stop for hours. She finally started speaking.

"I was going to break up with him." Before she continues she began to cry again. "He was talking to his friends and before I could ask him to talk in private."

"You do not need to tell me," I say to her to spare her from more sadness.

After the store closed I went to my room to write some thoughts in my diary:

Dear Dumbest Diary,

As we sat all I could think of is wishing I would've woken up this morning. If it were not for me to be tired I could have had her back. I want to turn the time back. Andi told me she was going to do it and I as her best friend did not have her back. If this was the other way around she would do all in her power to be there. I have let her down in the worst possible way I could have. I am glad she was able to tell me what happened but I feel like she did not tell me all of it. I do not know what to tell her when she asks me about my whereabouts that day.

From,

the worst best friend/person in the world
