A/n: ⚠️TW- there is a bit of blood mentioned in this one, and there is a passage with the theme of a vehicle accident so skip this one if that isn't for you :)
There was a faint ringing in your ears as your eyes flickered open.
The sun was blaring in the sky, it's heat stretching out towards you. You could feel it prickling your skin, nipping at your cheeks.
A driving force pushed your eyelids shut again as the ringing got louder.
"Y/n!"
Your body was shaking, and all you could hear was the high pitched ringing in your ears and a rattling sound coming from all around you.
"Y/n what are you doing?"
You were being thrown around inside a cage as it clattered along a rail.
Somebody grabbed your arm, and yanked you towards them. A boy with tousled blonde hair was pulling you towards a marine blue helicopter with a dozen people already inside.
"There's not enough space," someone shouted.
"Well we can't just leave them!" another voice hollered.
"We can. They're not that important to the operation." A mixture of voices were filling the air as the boy was dragging you over the dusty concrete.
"Y/n, hurry up! We're gonna bloody die!"Your head felt empty and your knees buckled under your weight as you tried to stand up. You came crashing down and hit your head on one of the boxes piled up against the side of the crate.
"Ow! Ah, motherfu-"
The helicopter engine growled as the pilot prepared to take off, but you and the boy were still on the ground.
"You can't bloody leave us here!" he yelled.
The engine was sputtering as the helicopter took to the sky.You could see a light up ahead, but a grate was obscuring your blurry vision of what was there.
"Wait for us!" you screamed, your voice breaking under the strain. Suddenly the sun's rays shot out, charring the helicopter. The engine failed, and the helicopter dropped from the sky, the people inside shrieking. As the vehicle slammed into the ground, the shrieks stopped. You could see a red liquid oozing from the rusty heap of metal and flesh.
Somebody was shouting from above you, and the grate was slowly opening.
"Y/n... we've got to go. I'm sorry." You and the boy were staring at the mound in front of you.
"But she was in there," you said, tears welling in your eyes. "She was in there! She was going to save us!" A great sob escaped you, and you covered your face with shaking hands.
"I know love, but now we have to save ourselves." The boy was trying to grab your hand, but you took a step back. You could feel your heartbeat in your ears. There were muffled shouts falling through the gaps in the grate as the cage slowed. "Guys the box is coming up!"
"No."
"Y/n! Think about it! She's dead!"
"No." Your hands were trembling, and you took more uncertain steps back. "No."
"Y/n! Come with me now! Do you want to die?"
"I'm sorry." You looked at the pile of metal before you.
"Y/n... someone murmured. "Y/n, help me get out."
"See, she's alive!" you yelled at the boy. Without realising, you had taken many steps away from him, and now you had to shout to hear each other.
"Don't lie to me, y/n!""Don't lie to me, Gally."
The voice made you shudder. You had heard it before.
"The box isn't meant to up for another week.""I'm not lying." You looked at the boy with pleading eyes, and you whimpered as he started to turn away. You wiped your patchy, tear-stained cheeks and screamed after him.
"I thought you were meant to save us now!" Your heartbeat was getting louder, and it pounded in your ears. They felt like they were bleeding, and your heart shuddered inside your chest as the boy continued to walk away.
"So did I."You could feel your temple pulsing as the light got brighter above you, but you kept fading back into darkness.
"Don't leave me here!" You were yelling again, but the boy didn't look back.
"Make it stop!" you screamed, putting your hands over your ears. The memory was getting to you.
"Don't leave me here!"
"Stop it!"
"Don't leave me here..."
The voice was fading, but the boy was still walking away in your mind. You tried to open your eyes but they were glued shut.
"Make it stop!""Don't...leave me...here..."
"Make it stop! Somebody pleas-!"
"Woah! Easy there. I'm Newt."
A boy had grabbed your wrists and jacked them away from your ears. You stared into his deep blue eyes and slipped your wrists out of his grasp. You looked up and saw a sea of boy's heads. Just boys. No girls. The heartbeat was coming back, getting rapidly louder and banging on the sides of your rib cage.
"Come on," Newt said, standing up and putting his hand out for you to take. You shook your head indignantly.
"Oh come on, we don't bite," he sighed, but one of the boys surrounding me barked, sending others into a fit of laughter. You decided you didn't like him.
"Well then. I hope you enjoy the box, love."
You remembered that. The word love. How he said it. How it complimented his accent. How it rolled easily off his tongue. You had only just met him, but you felt like you had known him forever.*
You had spent most of the day in 'the box'. You were hoping it would go back down but it didn't. You could hear the boys cheering at sunset and you decided to peek over the lip of 'the box'. You saw a large fire, the flames flickering dangerously close to the boys. You decided to get out of 'the box' and go and see them. Who knows, maybe you'd make a friend or two and find out about where you were.
You saw Newt sitting behind a log on his own, drinking something from a jar.
"Hello."
"Oh, so she talks," he said, and a smirk curled on his lips.
"She does," you said, sitting down next to him.
"Here," he said, handing you the jar. "Try some."
You took a small sip and immediately regretted it.
"Gosh, what is that?" you coughed, handing Newt back the jar.
"'Gally's recipe,'" he said, wiggling his eyebrows and making rabbit ears with his hands.
"Well, Gally's a shit barista," you giggled, and Newt laughed at your comment.
There was an awkward silence for a moment, since both of you had ran out of things to say. He looked at you and you could feel it, so you looked back at him. Suddenly, he wrapped his arms around you and pulled you into a tight hug. You hugged him back, nestling your nose into his chest.
"I remember you," he sighed, not letting go.
"I don't remember me."
Newt pulled out of the hug, and you suddenly felt cold, but he warmed you up by kissing your cheek softly. "That's ok." He smiled at you, and it felt like he was smiling for the both of you, even though you felt empty and miserable.
"But I remember you, Newt."
He cupped your face with his hands and stroked your cheeks, not taking his eyes of yours.
"I remember what happened though. With the helicopter."
His smile faltered, but he took your hand in his.
"Your safe now. And I know these people may seem intimidating, but there all teddy bears underneath. And although Gally's a shit barista, Frypan's a bloody good cook." You both giggled.
"Ok then. I'd like to meet this Frypan you speak of."
"Tomorrow, love."
"Do you call everyone that?" you asked.
"Would you prefer shank?" he said, raising his eyebrow.
"I'm not sure what that means, but I do like the sound of love," you laughed. You looked up at the sky, and saw the stars sparkling. This boy seems nice, you thought. I feel like I know him, but I'm not sure yet. I don't know how this is happening, or what's going on, but those questions can wait. I have a more important one.
"Newt?"
"Yes, love?"
"By the helicopter. Why did you walk away?"Hello again pumpkins :D
So this one was a bit sad (again) but it got cuter towards the end. Sorry this took so long and the quality isn't great, I was just a bit busy. I pinky promise the next part to this and most of the other imagines in this book are gonna be cute. I'm sorry if I keep disappointing you guys with kinda sad imagines, but I normally write when I'm in a bad mood, so that could be contributing to the sad storylines.
Requests are still open <3
Thank you so much for all the votes and reads and comments, it means so much.
Love you all,
Jess :)
