Avery POV

Today is the first day of my college life!

I step out of my room and head to the kitchen, where I find Venedic cooking.

"What's for breakfast?" I ask, hopping onto the kitchen island.

"Wow, young miss seems to be in a good mood today," Venedic teases, flashing a grin as he sets down a plate of crepes filled with strawberries and Nutella.

It looks so good!

As I take a bite, I glance at him. "What are you gonna do while I'm at school?" I ask, chewing.

"I'll be at school too. Don't worry," he replies, still smiling.

He's always so weird. I really hope he's not going to the same college as me.

After finishing breakfast, I rush to brush my teeth and get ready...before Venedic drives me to the campus.

As the car stops, he leans toward me slightly. "Goodbye kiss, young ma'am?" he says with a smirk.

"Kiss your ass," I respond, rolling my eyes as I get out of the car.

It's my first time going to school! I'm so nervous...

"Hey! Are you new here?"

A guy taps my shoulder, making me flinch slightly. He has brown hair and almond-shaped eyes. He's shorter than Venedic but still muscular. Not bad...

"Uhmm... done staring?" he asks, raising an eyebrow.

"Uh? Oh! I-I'm sorry!!" I panic and quickly look down. Why did I stare so much?!

He chuckles. "You're cute!"

I blink, feeling my face heat up.

"I'm Rez," he continues, grinning. "I enrolled here with my friends, but I still haven't found them." He reaches out his right hand for a handshake.

I smile kindly and extend my hand. "I'm Avery Hamet—"

Before I can finish, an arm suddenly wraps around my shoulders.

"And I'm Venedic White. Nice to meet you guys," Venedic says, appearing out of nowhere.

I tense up. "What are you doing here?" I whisper harshly.

"I told you I'd be at school too, remember?" he replies with a smirk.

"You guys know each other?" Rez asks, awkwardly shaking Venedic's hand instead of mine.

"We kno—"

"I don't know him," I cut in before Venedic can finish.

Venedic scoffs. "We do know each other. Don't lie," he mutters.

WTF is wrong with him?!

Rez, thankfully ignoring our weird exchange, changes the subject. "I'm in Class A-1. How about you guys?"

"We're in the same class!" I reply excitedly.

Rez turns to Venedic. "How about you?"

Venedic sighs dramatically. "Haaah... Advance class. I thought Avery would be in the smart class," he says, shaking his head in disappointment.

(The advance class is for students who scored perfectly on the entrance exam.)

I intentionally avoided a perfect score so I could be a normal student here.

I smirk. "Goodbye, smart kid," I tease as Rez and I walk toward our classroom, leaving Venedic behind

~~~
While sitting in class, Rez and I kept talking about random things. I quickly realized that he loves to talk a lot. I barely paid attention to the class orientation because of him. Ahaha... He's a complete extrovert.
"That's all for today. Class dismissed."
Just like that, the first day of college was over.
As I pack my things into my bag, Rez walks over. "Wanna meet my friends?"
"Where are they?" I ask, slinging my bag over my shoulder.
"They're waiting for me outside the gate," he replies.
I glance around the classroom, secretly hoping a girl classmate will come over and invite me to be friends. That'd be nice... But of course, that doesn't happen. Figures.
"Oh, sure! Let's go," I say, deciding to follow Rez out of the room.
But just as we step into the hallway—A husky voice whispers in my ear, sending shivers down my spine.
"Where are you going, little girl?"
I freeze. That voice...
"Venedic??" I turn to see him standing way too close.
"Where are you guys headed?" he asks, smiling like always.
"We're just meeting my friends," Rez answers, though his smile seems a little... forced.
Venedic tilts his head slightly. "Well, I can't just let this little girl go off alone with you. If you don't mind, I'm coming along." He's still smiling.
"But we're just meeting my friends," Rez says, his voice holding a hint of protest.
"And?" Venedic's tone suddenly shifts—cold, sharp. His usual playful expression disappears in an instant.
It's my first time seeing him like this.
Rez sighs in defeat. "Fine. Just come if you want." He walks ahead without another word.
I turn to Venedic, annoyed. "Are you always gonna tag along when I'm with my friends?"
Venedic's smirk returns. "You're cute, ma'am." Then he adds, "But isn't it a little too early to call him a friend?"
I froze for a moment, Venedic's words lingering in my mind.
He's right... 'It's a bit too early to call Rez a friend.'
But can you blame me? I've never had the chance to make friends before. I'm desperate to have a normal life... to experience what other people my age do without worrying about bodyguards, rules, or restrictions.
Still, why does it feel like Venedic is trying to keep me from that?
