Nang magising 'ko, mabilis kong napagtantong nasa hospital room ako pagkatapos mawalan ng malay sa kalagitnaan ng graduation. Hindi ko man lang nasabi ang speech na matagal ko nang pinaghandaan.
Umupo ako at hinanap ang aking salamin para mas malinaw kong makita ang paligid. Walang kahit na sino maliban sa akin kaya bumuntong hininga ako dahilan para mapalingon ako sa bahagi ng silid kung saan nakalagay ang isang mannequin na nakasuot ng isang black tube dress na siyang kapares ng YSL fantasy heels sa kaparehong kulay.
Para akong nalagutan ng hininga.
"Cruel." Dane appeared across the space with a serious look on his face. "That's what I thought when your mother showed up with that dress after watching you collapse at the graduation ceremony."
"You finally get it," sabi ko saka nilapitan iyong dress para pakiramdaman ang materyal noon.
"The party will start at 9 pm. You still have two hours to get ready... Anyway, my parents want us to arrive at your house together. You can get ready in my condo."
I narrowed my eyes as I gawked at his image. It seems like he has thoughts going inside his head which made me curious but I don't want him to think I was being nosy or something. In the end, I ended up getting ready in his place.
"Diamond," Dane said in a quiet but solid tone.
Hindi ko mapigilang ngumiti.
"Did you really not know my name all this time or you're just being a child?" Tiningnan ko siya mula sa kinauupuan.
He chortled while having a hard time tying his necktie. "You are the dumbest person I've ever met, dream girl."
Inirapan ko siya bago lumakad papalapit para tulungan siya. Nang tingalain ko siya para tingnan ang kanyang mga mata, naramdaman ko kaagad ang matinding pagkailang. Mabuti na lang at tuwid siyang nakatayo kung kaya't malaki ang espasyong namamagitan sa aming dalawa.
I think he's gotten taller.
"I don't plan to boast but let me remind you that I graduated Summa Cum Laude with the highest GPA recorded in the school's history, and dumb isn't the right word to describe me. Perhaps, excellent is the word you're looking for..." Then, I smiled sweetly before giving him a tap on the chest.
"You know what I like about you?" he reputed.
Nangunot ang noo ko, lalo na no'ng ilapit niya sa aking teinga ang labi niya. Ramdam ko ang kaba sa puso ko, halos iyon na lang ang siyang pumupuno sa pandinig ko.
"You always know how to flirt with me."
With that, I was left dumbfounded. I can't even move a muscle and if it were not for his laugh I would probably never recover.
"You're not funny, Dane." Tinulak ko siya bago lumabas ng silid hanggang sa makarating ako sa kinaroroonan ng sasakyan niya. Nagiinit pa rin ang pisngi ko.
