Wammy's House
Y/N Pov
Even though I was only 6 years old, both of my parents had left me on the streets of London, claiming that they would be back soon. But "soon" soon turned into hours, then days, until I found myself standing in front of a large castle-like building, with a friendly old man holding my hand who told me to call him Watari.
"Hi! Can I have this strawberry shortcake please?!" I pointed to the appetizing-looking slice of cake that was on display in the glass in front of me. The cashier looked at me slightly suspicious, probably since most of the customers here aren't 6 year olds by themselves. Her worried expression quickly turned into a smile and her eyes shinned. "Sure miss! That will be £3.61!" (about $5) The kind lady behind the glass display chimed, pressing a couple of buttons into a machine.
"Oh, I don't have enough money..." I realized
"Here you go, ma'am," A kind voice that came from behind me said. I turned around to meet the face of an old man with a soft smile, handing the money to pay for my cake to the cashier.
"Alright then! You two have a lovely day!" The cashier lady chippered. She handed me a white box with a ribbon tied around it with a slice of the strawberry shortcake in it.
"Thank you, sir!" I happily exclaimed. As I was about to walk off out of the small bakery, I was stopped by the man.
"Watari. You can call me Watari. I'm sorry to bother, but I can't help but wonder, are your parents around here? It's not safe to be wandering around by yourself." The old man remarked apropos
I quickly turned around on my heels to face him. "Oh! Um, well my parents left me at a store the other day, and they said they would be back soon, but never told me how long 'soon' was, so now I'm just waiting for them!" I explain.
"Hm, and what is your name?"
"Y/N. Y/N L/N"
After being asked a couple more questions, and taken into police custody, and brought to a clinic, that day was a very chaotic and confusing one. Watari explained to me that he would be taking care of me, along with other children, he described it as a big home for 'special kids'. I hoped that meant I was smart or something.
Present-day
I was led into the whimsical building and was given a tour of the place, and at the end was shown where my room was. I placed my small suitcase that had a couple of items, such as clothes, on my bed which was across from a large window that showcased the view of a little pond and a playground. I'm definitely gonna have to go there! I placed my folded clothes into a small dresser and decided that maybe I could go ask to go to the small playground until there was a knock on my door.
"Y/N? May I come in?" I recognized the voice as Roger, another man I recently met who helps run the orphanage.
"Sure!"
Roger opens the door, and trailing behind him is a pale-looking boy with jet-black hair and black eyes to go along with it. The first thing I noticed about him was the dark circles under his eyes and his scoliosis-themed posture.
"Y/N, this is L. L, this is Y/N. I thought that L could help you settle in here since you two would complement each other quite well."
I noticed L hiding behind Roger a bit, noticing that he was quite shy, but I thought it was kind of cute. "L, would you like to show Y/N the playground?" Roger proposed the idea. L peak his head out from behind him to analyze me a bit more, but decided to agree by shaking his head.
Roger left L and me alone in my room, and I skipped over to him. "So, how old are you?" "6. You?" "Me too"
I grabbed my white box with the cake that I never got to eat inside and made my way to the door where L was standing with both of his hands in the pockets of his jeans. "Let's go!"
Once we made our way out of my bedroom, L asked, "What's in the box?"
"Oh, this? It's just strawberry shortcake that I wasn't able to eat yesterday, so I thought now would be a good time!" I exclaimed, my grip on the box tightening. The emotionless expression on L's face was replaced with one of interest. "Really? Do you mind if I had some?" You could hear a slight plead in his question. "Yeah, sure!"
We made our way to the little playground next to the pond. The sun was getting ready to set soon, which left about a good hour of being outside. I ran outside and admired the small space, the view looking more magical than the one from my window. I spotted a space in between the playground and pond, and ran to it, while L following behind me, not bothering to catch up with me.
I opened the box on the grass and took out two plastic forks. Huh, the lady must have thought Watari was with me so she gave me two... L finally sat down in front of me, except in a pose where his knees were brought up to his chest. That definitely would have hurt my back.
I happily handed a fork to L and noticed a small blush appeared on his cheeks, which made me giggle a bit, and he took the fork. We ate in comfortable silence, yet he ate about 2/3 of the cake leaving me with only 1/3, but I didn't mind at all. It was nice to have a friend here, if I could even consider him one.
We talked about how we ended up here, and what we'd like to do with our lives. "Oh! I'd probably want to be a detective, so I could figure out why my parents left me without any warning" I state.
"Huh a detective, sounds interesting. I guess I never really thought of what I'd want to be, but maybe I can help you" L responds.
"Yeah! We can be like a team! We will become the world's greatest detectives!" I exclaimed.
"Yeah, I think I'd like that..." L put his thumb up to his lower lip, and the same blush returned to his face.
"From now on, let's work together to solve all kinds of different cases!" Maybe I was getting a little too over my head, but it was a wholesome moment.
"Whatever you say, Y/N," L blushes again with a small smile.
