A thump and abrupt weight jiggled my bed as my eyes sprung open to find an overexcited Natasha at the foot of my bed, "Tell me about last niiiiight."

I started laughing and pulled the covers over my face, giving her a gentle kick through the duvet, "What time is it?"

"Just after seven," she mused, pulling the covers from my grip, unbothered by the kicks.

"You couldn't wait until after breakfast?" I giggled, propping myself up slightly to face her, lightly smiling.

"Nah, I'm impatient like that," she teased, stretching out on her stomach beside me as she propped herself up on her elbows. "Now, give me all the juicy details."

"Well, a lady should never share too much, but..," I started, my voice pitching up slightly as I thought back on the events of the previous night. "First off, we took his motorcycle and it was amazing."

Nat laughed as I continued babbling about our date, "We got dinner and just got to know each-other a bit more. The band was phenomenal and we had a little dance. Then we went for a walk through this park. There were so many flowers and oh my god - there was this little boy, Riley, and he had this teddy dressed up in a Captain America outfit. He came up to us and Steve was just so good with him, it was so sweet, Nat."

I caught myself gushing over Steve as Nat just gazed up at me in amusement, "Sorry." Nat just shrugged as she gestured for me continue.

"I wanted all the juicy details, Bon."

"Okay, okay. Well, they took a photo and he was over the moon and Steve was just so. Ugh. Anyway, so we continued our little walk for a bit and then he dropped me off. Simple as that," I shrugged, a flush creeping over my cheeks as I dulled down the details of our evening.

"You guys didn't kiss?" She pouted, seeming slightly disappointed, "Surely you guys had a little kiss."

A small smile spread over my lips as I shrugged, giggling quietly, "A lady never tells, Tasha."

"Oh my god. You guys kissed," she squealed and leapt over, pulling me into a tight hug.

I laughed before starting to try and defend myself, shaking my head, "Nooooo."

"You so did, otherwise you would've just denied it," Nat grinned, leaning back to look at me, "Tell me all about it."

"Fine," I grinned, hugging her back as I began gushing over Steve once again, "It was just outside our front door. It was so cute he was like just gently stroking my cheek and his lips were so soft and oh my god, Nat, he asked first. I've never met a guy to ask first and oh my gosh." A giddy warmth erupted over my skin as I struggled to form my emotions into words.

Nat just grinned at me as I continued, giggling quietly, "And youuuu, Miss Natasha. I went to kiss him again and FRIDAY rudely interpreted us."

"You're kidding. I told her to wait until you were inside," Nat groaned before she started laughing, "I'm so sorry."

"It's okay. I'm actually kinda thankful. It meant I scored a second date," I spoke as Nat gasped, gesturing for me to explain. "Well, FRIDAY interrupted us and I just said that he'll have to take me on another date if he wants to get a proper kiss. So we're going on a picnic date tonight."

Nat squealed again and hopped off the bed, jumping around my room as I laughed at her.

A few floors up, Steve was stretched out on the boys' couch from the night before, still in his leather jacket, pinstriped trousers and light blue dress shirt, a bright red kiss imprinted on his cheek. Quiet snores fell from his lips as Sam and Bucky made their way out of their respectable rooms, not noticing Steve at first.

Bucky and Sam shared a confused glance as a loud snore came from their couch. They tip toed over and peered over the back of it before Bucky awed quietly and Sam started laughing. Steve furrowed his brows at the noise, slowly opening his eyes to look around the room before up to his friends, "What?"

"Good sleep?" Sam laughed, beaming down at Steve and the evident red lipstick on his cheek. Steve just gave him a puzzled look before realisation took over him, his cheeks almost matching the colour of the red mark.

"How'd it go?" Bucky questioned, lightly drumming on the back of the couch as he smiled down at Steve. He was secretly rooting for the relationship just as much as Nat.

"Yeah, good. Really good," Steve smiled, gazing up at the ceiling as he pondered, pulling his blanket up to under his chin.

"Why're you sleeping on the couch, though?" Sam mused, wandering off to the kitchen.

"Uh, I dunno. I must've fallen asleep while taking my shoes off," Steve yawned, stretching his arms out as he looked to his shoes sitting neatly beside the couch.

Bucky laughed and rolled his eyes, following Sam to the kitchen, "Well don't get too comfy, Tony's got us going out this afternoon to recover some data. Something about hijacking a ship."

Steve shot up as he looked to his friends, "What time will we be done?"

"Depends. If it goes smoothly, later tonight. If not, who knows," Bucky smiled before it quickly faded at the sight of a rather anxious Steve, "Why?"

"I was meant to be going on another date," he sighed, resting his head in his hands, "She'll understand, right?"

"So it went that well, huh?" Sam called before a loud thump followed. "Ow!"

"'Course she'll understand, Steve," Bucky reassured, starting to busy himself with breakfast.

Steve sighed as he listened to his friends in the kitchen. He took his phone from the coffee table and made his way to his room, dialling my number as he did.

I grabbed my phone and showed Nat, who gasped quietly from the foot of my bed. Pressing the green icon, I held the phone to my ear, smiling to myself, "Good morning, Rogers."

"Morning, love," you could hear the smile through the gravel in Steve's voice as he spoke, "How'd you sleep?"

"Yeah, really well. Although Nat woke me up at some god awful time."

"Ha. Likewise with Sam and Buck," he mused, although his thoughts seemed elsewhere.

"What's up?"

"Tony's got us going on some data recovery mission this evening. Bucky said something about a ship. I'm really sorry, love."

"Hey, hey. That's okay. I'm free every evening so we'll just take a rain check," I reassured as my gaze moved up to meet Nat's solemn one.

"I wish I could just skip it or something," he sighed.

"Tony won't let you, you know that. We'll just have to have an extra special date the evening after, okay?"

"Okay."

"And in case I don't see you before you leave, one piece, Steve," I smiled, my eyes falling back to watch my hands fiddle with a piece of loose thread.

"One piece, I promise." I could hear a small smile creeping back over his lips before he went quiet.

We both sat in a comfortable silence for a moment before I spoke up, "I'll be working in the lab if anything goes sideways, okay?"

"Yeah, okay."

"One piece, Rogers."

"One piece, promise."

And with that, the line went dead and I took a deep breath, holding it for a moment before letting it out in a loud sigh. Nat leant over and gave my back a gentle rub, "They say absence makes the heart grow fonder, you know."

"Yeah," I smiled up at her and nodded. She gave my arm a gentle squeeze before hopping up.

"Bruce asked for you to come down when you were ready, by the way." She smiled, waltzing towards the door before throwing a glance over her shoulder, "I made us waffles."

"My god, I love you," I giggled, flinging the covers back from my bed and wandering towards the wardrobe to find something to wear. Nat just giggled as she disappeared back into the living room and kitchen.

Half an hour later, I strode into Bruce's lab in a pair of tights, converse and Nat's Captain America sweater. My computer was tucked neatly under my arm as I greeted him with a small smile, "G'morning."

"Morning Mrs. Rogers," Bruce teased as he glanced up to me, chuckling quietly.

I rolled my eyes as my cheeks became tainted by a hot pink flush, setting my computer down beside Bruce, "What're we doing today, Mr. Romanoff?"

Bruce laughed as he pushed a few small vials over to in front of me, "We, or rather you, are going to be synthesising this DNA. It's Wolverine's."

"Holy shit, really?" I beamed, my lips falling agape as my eyes studied the small tubes. As an engineer with a particular interest in mutant genetics, getting my hands on Wolverine's DNA was quite exciting. "What're we trying to find?"

"We're still working on making the serum into an injectable. I'm hoping we might find a strange or altered protein somewhere in his sequence that makes it tolerable to internal environments."

I beamed again, carefully picking up the particular tubes labelled as 'hormones' and 'cerebrum.' After injecting the respectable amino acid chains into the nano-pore protein, I monitored for any changes.

Bruce rolled his chair over to where I was stood, peering around me, "What're you doing?"

"It's called nano-pore sequencing. In layman's terms, it reads the base pair nucleotides of the DNA strand. The nucleic acid of the strand passes through the nano-pore protein membrane and any changes in the electrical current tell us the certain sequence. We've got a four colour fluorophore, so it's working at about 500 bases per second. Which sounds fast, but it'll be working all night," I babbled, looking up to Bruce.

"That was not layman's terms, Bonnie," he stated with wide eyes.

"Sorry. Um. It's a specialised protein that tells us the DNA sequence," I smiled, looking back to the small set up.

Bruce nodded slowly as he patted my back, "Well. I'll let you handle that." I laughed and grabbed my computer, setting up a new word document as Bruce scooted back to his desk, continuing with his sorting of DNA segments.

Very sorry about the science lingo besties I'm studying something similar to Bonnie and fell into a rabbit hole over the nano-pores hehe
