“Why not try to be more like Kari?”

A voice from behind her suddenly broke her silence while sitting alone at the school cafeteria. She's having a peaceful lunch awhile ago until this group of kids shows up and it always tries to annoy her.

“Look at her. Doesn't that bother you? She's there having the time of her life for this new school year again. Don't tell me you're planning to stay the same?”

She let out a soft sigh as she glanced up towards her sister's direction. Who's sitting just across the room, being centered of the spotlight. Seeing her there laughing while being surrounded by a lot of people doesn't bother Kira at all. Tho, sometimes she pictures her as herself; Laughing, wearing the brightest colors of clothes, lips painted pink and talking loudly. Imagining her being like Kari always gives her the chills. Maybe she's just meant to be the exact opposite of her twin sister.

“That's enough, Stacy. She probably got a problem with her head, she doesn't even talk.”

“Right? Is she mute or something?”

“She's not, considering Mr. Edward made her read a sentence last sem, that's the first time i heard her.”

“Really?”

She looked down again back to her food as their voice slowly fading as they're now walking away from her. It's always a defeat for them. No matter what they do, Kira doesn't seem to give a single care nor get bothered from whatever they say or things they'll pull to make fun of her. Outside, she looks dull, plain and just.. boring. That even bullies couldn't even stand her unresponsive behavior and eventually just gonna leave her alone.

What's wrong with me?

“Excuses..”

The sound of the food tray getting placed on the same table as her was enough to get her attention shifted to this unfamiliar guy who just sat infront of her. She might not be friends with anyone here but she's somehow already familiar with some faces around and right now, she's sure that she haven't seen this guy before. Considering the fact that this new semester started two weeks ago. It's not like it's a big deal. She's probably not that paying attention enough to her surroundings as she thought she were.

“What is he doing? He's the new guy right?”

“Oh, the exchange student from England?”

“He's such a pretty boy!”

They got no shame at all, i can even hear them from here. Obviously he could too.

The cafeteria became more louder than usual as everyone started talking about the new student. She just laid her eyes on him enough to check his features. He got this quite long brown hair, these wide shoulders and he's obviously a tower himself. He glanced up to look at her and for the first time, it somehow startled her. His green eyes, instantly pierced through her memory.

What was that?

She continues to eat and acted like it did not bothered her. She can sense his eyes on her but there's no point for her to ask or deal with him in any way. There's probably no more vacant seat anymore, she thought.

“You're Kira right? Kira Sora?”

She stopped from chewing and battled wether she'll look back again to him or just keep her silence and do what she always do when someone talks to her, ignore them.

She probably hasn't notice she's been quiet enough for him to notice and apologize.

“Ah, I'm really sorry. Where are my manners? I am Zei Hudson by the way.”

The guy chuckled softly and lend his left hand towards her. That somehow made Kira froze. No one ever talked to her like that. With such a soft voice and friendly approach.

What is this?

She finally gathered her thoughts and rose up her head to face him. She has quite never seen a very calm and soft expression before. Specially those eyes,

they're beautiful’ she thought.

But still, without giving any expression. She extended her arm and took his hand gently. His hand are big compared to her small ones. A man's hand. This is the first time she ever held someone else's hand. The fact that she's just like a wind in this place, who comes and gos and just passes silently, she realized how alone she really was after all this time. For a very long time, she doesn't even care.

But why is this warmth of his hand

scares me?
