Jager's PoV.
I arrived at the Horina System and saw Admiral Claudia's flagship docked at a shipyard. The fleet is dispersed, patrolling in small groups.
A hologram appeared and the person started talking. "This is Admiral Claudia of the 3rd Attack Fleet. Who is this and state your business." She started.
But when she saw the ship herself, she gasped. "Oh wait... hi, Jager!"
"Good day, Admiral Claudia." I greeted.
"What... are you doing here?" She asked.
"The Kaitos system is in need of help. I will command the fleet, with you temporarily acting as Vice-admiral." I said.
"No problem. I will order the fleet to come back." She said.
"Leave a small portion of the fleet to protect this system. Let one of your trusted officers to command them." I said.
"Will do." She said and smiled. She ordered an officer to command a small section of the fleet, and the rest of the fleet returned to the shipyard.
"Let's go." I said and locked the coordinates to Kaitos system. The rest of the fleet followed me and we hurried to the system.
*30 minutes later*
We just arrived at the Kaitos System and the smaller defence fleet is already in position.
"This is the 3rd attack fleet! I am Admiral Jager from the Dragonscale Union!" I said and transmitted the message towards the lead Kaitoan Cruiser, which is commanding the defence fleet.
"This is Admiral Kale Dahn from the 'Steadfast' Kaitoan Cruiser. We are thankful for your help." He responded. "We still have 15 minutes to set a defence before the estimated arrival of the Rebel fleet."
"Good. I will temporarily take control of the whole fleet." I answered.
"No problem." He answered and we approached the fleet. My ship and Claudia's ship were next to the 'Steadfast', then Admiral Claudia and I used our fighters to land on their hangar. We quickly approached the bridge of the 'Steadfast', and we met the admiral.
"Greeting, Admiral Jager-" he started as he turned, but froze when he saw my face.
"Dustin?" He asked with a shocked face.
"No. Jager, Dustin's twin brother." I answered, and pointed at Admiral Claudia next to me. "And this is Admiral Claudia, you both will be commanding with me." I said. Admiral Kale shook Admiral Claudia's hand and he turned towards me.
"If you are Dustin's brother, then you must be as skilled as him." He said and shook my hand eagerly. I shook his hand, a little confused.
"He helped you before?" I asked.
"Oh yes. A ton. He helped us attack and reconquer the system that was packed with pirates." He said.
I nodded and he showed me a map of the surrounding space, including Hyperspace arrival points and the planet itself.
"Scouts found out the Rebel fleet is amassed at a nearby system, and they counted 4 MC-80 Star Cruisers and 8 Nebulon-B frigates. They can't really check how many smaller ships are in the fleet. If the whole fleet arrived at the same time, they would arrive... like that." Admiral Kale said as he drew a line, indicating the rebel fleet's estimated formation.
"We could do a frontal defence, or an arc defence." Claudia said. "The 3rd attack fleet in the flanks and the middle, while the defence fleet hold in the middle." She said.
"We can send a detachment a little behind in the left and right of the rebel fleet, but far from the arc defence. The rebels won't know the existence of the detachments unless they turn, and when we give a signal, the detachments move to the rebels and we surround them." I continued.
"What if the rebels managed to break through the middle defence? We also need a backup plan." Kale said.
"The arcs fold towards the middle and attack the rear of the fleet, rendering the rebel fleet's movements useless." Claudia said.
"We don't have much time. These plans will be the one we use." I said and the others agreed. I returned to the 'Dragonfury', while Claudia returned to her flagship, the 'Bastion'. We hastily prepared our plan and defences, and soon, the rebel fleet arrived.
"Surrender and we will consider sparing you." I heard a transmission from the rebel flagship.
"Retreat and we will consider not to devastate you." I said.
"Oh you cocky little-" the rebel Admiral was angry.
"You aren't confident of the outcome of the battle, huh?" I said and he was fuming.
"Ships! Destroy that bastard!" The rebel admiral screamed, and the enemy ships flew towards us. The transmission ended and I contacted the fellow Admirals.
"Perfect. The rebel admiral is furious and he had a large chance to mess up his plans to attack, and make a wrong move." I told them and they chuckled.
"Good job. Now, we should focus on the fight." Claudia said. We nodded and focused.
"I will observe their moves, and you two control sudden enemy movements, alright?" I said and they nodded. I observed the enemy flanks as the two fleet's clashed. I suddenly saw a few enemy frigates from the right flank push forward, leaving the right flank less guarded.
I contacted the right detachment and gave them the signal. They instantly responded and the detachment armed their weapons and moved closer to the right flank, and soon, they started firing. The weak right flank's ships tried to intercept, but are destroyed by our detachment's power. But after a while, bigger ships started firing towards the detachment, and forced them to retreat to repair and rearm.
As the battle raged on, losses from both sides started to pile up. Our defence is getting thinner.
"Come on! A chance for a flanking manoeuvre?" I gritted my teeth.
Suddenly, Claudia transmitted a message towards me.
"Left flank weakened by missiles, should we send the left detachment?" She asked.
I nodded and gave the order to attack.
"Claudia? Order some of your ships to support the detachment. It will add more damage." I said and she nodded. She send a few ships and they attacked left flank.
"C'mon! More mistakes, please?" I muttered to myself. Suddenly, an idea popped up.
"Claudia! Focus your firepower on the middle of the left flank! I think the rain of bolts will startle the enemy command." I said and Claudia agreed. She ordered her ships to fire at the enemy flagship. Although some of the bolts missed, most bolts caused damage to the flagship.
"The enemy ships are moving towards the left flank! This is the chance! All middle ships focus fire towards the middle!" I shouted and a rain of bolts devastated the middle, but the flagship still didn't budge. Although the rebel fleet's casualties are heavy, their resolve was very strong.
"Argh! Focus fire on the smaller ships!" I was also getting impatient.
"Relax, Jager. The enemy fleet is firing less now. They are retreating." Claudia comforted. Her rather sweet voice made me calm down.
Soon, their losses were too many and they retreated to regroup.
I checked the damage of my fleet and was relieved. Only a small fraction of Oppressor Star Destroyers were destroyed, and since they were automatic, no lives were taken.
"This turned out surprisingly well. But they are regrouping, and we need to reorganise the defences." I sad to the fellow admirals.
Our ships formed a new line, and we hoped for Dustin's reinforcements to arrive quickly.
