     The bell rang.
Students flood out the school doors and their parents wait outside for them.
Adam was now 8, longing for his quests to stop for the holidays. He was tired. Worn out. Wishing to die and end it all. He only is still alive because of the system. He can't die permanently even if he dies a thousand times consecutively. It'll stay that way until the person behind the system moves on to someone else or simply stops. He sighs, sinking into the crowd of human meat, feeling like passing out on the floor. He's yawned at least 20 times today since lunch. He finally reaches the school entrance, pushed out of the pack and could finally breathe. School was over. He'd just finish his last mission and soon, the holidays will come.
“A-... Kid!” he heard a familiar voice that made his heart pound. It was an annoying thing but he's gotten used to it. Though, he still doesn't understand what it is. It's been happening since kindergarten and it has never stopped once. He could never have a breather. One thing he noticed is that it only happens when… Adam turned and saw Felix walking over to him from under a tree, then giving him a neatly wrapped box. He looked up at the rich boy and tilted his head a little in confusion. “Merry Christmas. I know it's November, I was actually supposed to give you this next week before the holiday but I just couldn't wait…” Felix shoved his hands into his pockets, looking away. Adam smiled and gave the other a small hug before thanking him, to which Felix nodded and smiled back, then walking off to find his brother.
.
     Adam stared at the box.
What could be inside it? He hopes it isn't something too expensive. Knowing Felix, it might just be. Fuck. If he gave him something expensive, he'll blow up from guilt. Adam doesn't like expensive things given to him. He feels guilty too often and it hurts a lot to him.
Adam slowly unwraps the gift, gulping as he goes along. 'Shoot shoot shoot shoot shoot'
A…. Seasonal accessory item given by the man behind the system… great. Just clothing. How thoughtful. It was a pumpkin mask and a terribly sown pumpkin shirt. It just basically looked like a plain orange sweater. I guess the game wanted to be nice even though October was a while ago. He left the box on his desk for a little while, as he sat on his bed, staring at it, thinking, 'Damnit….  I got my hopes up too high… it was because Felix gave it to me! The man behind the system could've just put it in my wardrobe or something…' he groaned, ruffling his hair out of stress. Adam flopped backwards onto his pillow and stared at the ceiling, eyes slowly shutting. 'Damn...' he thought, turning to his side and slowly falling asleep.
     …
Adam opened his eyes to find himself in a void of some sorts. It was dark, he knew that enough. There wasn't any sign of anything. Was he dreaming? He never got dreams before, the loop and all. It's strange. His eyes are open but it's so dark. He reached out his hand to maybe be able to find something, but nothing. He hesitated, but decided to walk, squinting his eyes as if that would help make him see better in an absolute abyss. He walked straight, slowly and carefully. Nothing. What was happening? Then, his foot bumped into something. A wall, possibly? He put both his hands out and felt a straight surface which felt somewhat like paper. Wallpaper? He presumed. He followed the wall, touching it as he went along until he felt he hit a corner. He turned and saw a white outlined figure, standing there doing nothing. (drawing to show what I meant lol) How peculiar this was? The figure opened it's mouth, or is what Adam had assumed, saying, "Duncan. I finally get to meet you," there appeared it's eyes as it gave Adam a creepy sly smile that sent shivers down our protagonist's spine. Adam froze, his legs weren't moving. "Wh-Who are you?" he managed to say, his heart racing. He gulped, the figure moving closer. "I go by many names. Ask your dear mother, she would know," the figure then laughed. Mother. Of course. The figure put a hand on Adam's shoulder. "Wake up now," a creepy smile again, and it disappeared. Adam felt a soft blanket over him, a pillow under his head. He opened his eyes, recognizing the room as his own. So it was a dream? Getting up and yawning, Adam stared at his door for a moment. He felt tired to go out but it was his last mission for today. Though that dream was rather strange…
"Mom?" Adam called from the stairs as he made his way down. "Adam! Good morning, dear," his mother smiled, putting money into our brunette boy's bag. "Uhm.. I have a few questions," he said, stepping off the last step, scratching his head. His mother nodded, still smiling, then walked over to him. "What is it?" she kneeled down to his level and ruffled his hair. "I had a dream," his mother's smile soon disappeared. "You met the strange figure, huh?" she looked away, to which Adam nodded. "Who was he?" he asked. His mother seemed to hesitate, her breath hitched. She dragged her hand down to Adam's cheek, caressing it softly, then stood up, taking his hand. "Come," she said, leading him to the living room, inviting him to sit down next to her, as he did. "Okay.." a sigh,
"He goes by many names. The Player. The Manipulator. The Puppet-Master. Many more names had been given to this psychotic, sadistic figure, passed down by our ancestors. It all had the same meaning. This person was a puller of strings. He controls everything that happens in the system and the loop. He controls who says what. The only thing he cannot control is people that are not included in the system. This was all a game to them. Only a game, a game that threw children into it, making them kill each other. A morbid game that holds madness. This figure is a demon sent from hell to make us suffer. I had accepted that as his fate for years to come…"
Adam stared at his mother, a concerned-confused look on his face. So that person…. Is the reason why Adam was suffering? He was the man behind the system. He pushed all the buttons that created this nightmare of a world. Accepting it? No way was he going to accept it. He had to stand up to himself. "You want to stop him, don't you?" his mother asked, as if everything he thought was spoken out loud. He wasn't surprised. He didn't have time to be surprised so he just nodded, a serious face as something boiled up inside him. Anger? Did he seek vengeance? He definitely did. He swore to get it. Someday he'll get it.
