Full house

Our house has never been more full. It only worked because none of the guests needed sleep. At mealtime, we agreed they wouldn't hunt in neither Forks or La Push, they could only hunt out of state. Edward was lending his cars when necessary. I was impressed how they treated Jake and Seth well. They treated them like people who don't like animals treat their friends' pets, more or less like they were invisible. That was better than what Edward had imagined.

We'd replayed the scene of Renesmee's introduction to the Denali coven a half dozen times. First it was Peter and Charlotte, whom Alice and Jasper had sent our way without giving them any explanation at all. Neither Peter nor Charlotte had ever seen an immortal child. Though they knew the rule, their negative reaction was not as powerful as the Denali vampires' had been at first. Now they were as committed to witnessing as Tanya's family.

Later, Carlisle had sent friends from Ireland and Egypt. The Irish clan arrived first, and they were surprisingly easy to convince. The clan was formed by Siobhan and her husband Liam, and by Maggie, the youngest of the clan, she didn't look older than eighteen. She had the gift to know when someone was lying.

Amun and the other Egyptian vampires were another story. Even though we convinced Benjamin and Tia, Amun refused to touch Nessie and he wanted to leave. Luckily, Benjamin convinced him to stay with a few subtle threated about disbanding their alliance.

"Amun has been keeping Benjamin from Aro's attention. Amun created Benjamin, knowing he would be special." Edward said.

"What can he do?" Bella and I asked.

"Something I've never heard of. Something that even your shield would do nothing against. He can actually influence the elements, like Violet and the other witches. True physical manipulation, no illusion of the mind."

Benjamin seemed really happy and cheerful.

After that, Emmett and Rose sent Carlisle's nomad friends.

Garrett was the first to arrive, he was clearly an adventurer. He quickly got along with the Denali sisters.

Then came Mary and Randall. Who also agreed to be witnesses.

Carlisle and Esme came back a week after they haf left. Emmett and Rose a few days later. I felt a little better that everyone was home again. My parents brought Alistair, he agreed to be a witness, but he didn't want to touch Renesmee.

Unexpectedly two people arrived. The Amazons.

"Carlisle," the taller one spoke.

But they were both really tall.

"Zafrina and Senna! But where's Kachiri?" Carlisle asked. "I've never seen you three apart."

"Alice told us we needed to separate," Zafrina answered. "It's uncomfortable to be away from each other, but Alice assured us that you needed us here, while she very much needed Kachiri somewhere else. That's all she would tell us, except that there was a great hurry... ?"

Both Amazons listened very calmly Ness' story. They were fascinated with Renesmee just as much as the others.

Zafrina was really talented, she could make anyone see whatever she wanted.

"It's a very straightforward illusion," Edward said. "She can make most people see whatever she wants them to see—see that, and nothing else. For example, right now I would appear to be alone in the middle of a rain forest. It's so clear I might possibly believe it, except for the fact that I can still feel you in my arms."

Nessie, who was holding my hand, reached out to Zafrina."Can I see?"

"What would you like to see?" Zafrina asked.

"What you showed Daddy."

A second later Ness stared blankly into space with a smile on her face. "More,"

After that, it was hard to keep Renesmee away from Zafrina. It was good keeping Ness occupied. Even more now that Bella wanted to train her shield, and also train to fight.

While Bella trained her abilities with Edward, Emmett, Garrett and Kate, Renesmee and I went back inside where the other vampires were.

Some of them knew about my species, mainly because I've got to meet some of them before, like the Denali clan and the Amazons. But the ones who didn't know about me and my species, some were curious, others were apprehensive.

I sat on the couch with Ness on my lap. As soon as they saw us there, a few of them joined us.

"We were very interested to get to know you better after Carlisle told us about you and your species." Benjamin spoke.

"We've never crossed paths with any other witch before." Siobhan spoke. "And we were present at the witch hunts, but all the people we saw being killed were human."

"Witches can live in clans like vampires, or alone. Most live with at least one other witch. Especially after the events in Salem, witches have not felt safe since." I said.

"Your gifts are really interesting, Carlisle told us." Benjamin said.

"Yeah. I have a few powers similar to what some of you have. Us witches can control the elements like Benjamin, fire, water, earth, air, and we can control the weather. We can also control electricity, more or less like Kate does, but the difference is that our power is physical, not mental like Kate's. Some of us can also detect lies like Maggie, but I don't have that gift."

"Do all witches have the same powers? Or they can have special powers like the vampires?" Mary asked.

"We have some powers in common, called main powers: weather control, plant control, immortality, magic, telepathy, telekinesis, teleportation, potions, mirror manipulation, spells, mediunity, hypnosis, conjuration, and some others. But we can have special powers, they are usually passed mother to daughter. For an example, I have the gift to know when someone close is in danger, I also have the gift to see someone's past, and lastly, I can inflict pain in someone with my mind."

Jane and I shared a power. We both got that from our mother.

"You have the same power as Jane?" Benjamin asked curiously.

"Yes." I said. "It's not a coincidence. It's a long story, but Jane and Alec are my half-siblings. We share the same mother."

They were all shocked. I didn't have the time to tell them more stories or answer more questions. Two other vampires arrived in our home.

"Did Alice send you?" Carlisle asked.

"No one sent us," one of them spoke.

"Then what brings you here now?" Carlisle asked.

"Word travels," the other one said. "We heard hints that Volturi were moving against you. There were whispers that you would not stand alone. Obviously, the whispers were true. This is an impressive gathering."

"We are not challenging the Volturi," Carlisle answered. "There has been a misunderstanding, that is all. A very serious misunderstanding, to be sure, but one we're hoping to clear up. What you see are witnesses. We just need the Volturi to listen. We didn't—"

"We don't care what they say you did," the first voice interrupted. "And we don't care if you broke the law."

"No matter how egregiously," the second inserted.

"We've been waiting a millennium and a half for the Italian scum to be challenged," the first said. "If there is any chance they will fall, we will be here to see it."

"Or even to help defeat them," the second added. "If we think you have a chance of success."

"Violet? Bring Renesmee here, please. Maybe we should test our Romanian visitors' claims." Edward spoke in a hard voice.

All this time Renesmee and I were in the living room, while the others were on the back of our house, where the two vampires had arrived. I took Nessie's hand and we went to where everyone was.

"Well, well, Carlisle. You have been naughty, haven't you?" the first one said.

"She's not what you think, Stefan." Carlisle said.

"And we don't care either way," the blonde responded. "As we said before."

"Then you're welcome to observe, Vladimir, but it is definitely not our plan to challenge the Volturi, as we said before."

"Then we'll just cross our fingers," Stefan, the brunette, began.

"And hope we get lucky," Vladimir said.

We gathered seventeen witnesses. The Irish, Siobhan, Liam and Maggie, the Egyptians, Amun, Kebi, Benjamin and Tia, the Amazons, Zafrina and Senna, the Romanians, Vladimir and Stefan, the nomads, Charlotte, Peter, Garrett, Alistair, Mary and Randall. To complete our family, Tanya, Kate, Eleazar and Carmen, who insisted on being counted as family.

I think it was the biggest immortal reunion in history. And they were all apprehensive about what would happen when we meet the Volturi.
