"Here," Bonnie hands me a strawberry lance. It's one of those sweets that look like pencils with strawberry flavour on the outside and a white middle. I had no idea they were called a lance until half an hour ago when Bonnie opened a packet she said she'd been saving since she bought it at duty-free. "So, you and Kaiser were looking close yesterday."
I roll my eyes and smirk. "I told you. It's chill."
"Babe, he never hugs anyone unless it's really bad like someone has died and he comforts them. That's it."
"Oh, shush." I laugh. She can't possibly mean that. Surely, that's an exaggeration.
"Nah seriously, he hasn't hugged me since Grandma died three years ago." She says.
"W-well... erm..." I stutter, blushing. Has he really not hugged his sister in that long?
"Cat got your tongue?" She teases.
I nudge her whilst feeling the heat of my face begin to worsen.
"You're into him, aren't you?!"
I shake my head furiously. "After Javier, I'm staying well away from that area."
"That's not the question I asked." She raises her eyebrow. "I can see you are and it's okay. He's a good guy." She smiles. "And hey, if you're still with us by September, there's a ball going on. He might ask you."
"What? A mafia ball?" I laugh. That is so bloody typical.
"Nah. Dad has loads of businesses so he can distribute the gang money into banks without anyone raising a brow. It makes him a successful businessman." She smiles, crossing her legs properly.
"Oh, I see. Does he have a lot of money, your dad?" I did wonder if the penthouse is his money or the gangs money, but didn't want to seem rude or nosey asking but seeing as she brought it up, I don't think she'll mind.
Bonnie smiles. "Yeah, you could say that."
I want to ask further. Like a millionaire? Billionaire?
"Is it his ball?" I ask, shuffling my legs to get around hers.
"Nah, it's Elon Musk's. Him and Dad have rubbed shoulders a few times. Dad's got shares in Tesla too and you'd be surprised how much weed we've sorted Elon with in the past." She chuckles.
Drugs. Well duh April, it is the fucking Manchester Mafia. I furrow my brows. "What drugs does your Dad run in here?"
She shrugs. "Mainly weed. Occasionally a bit of coke if it's good stuff and worth it but the gangs mainly protection and business. It used to be about drugs mainly in the 90s until like three people OD'ed and Dad knew he didn't want to take it further and ruin anymore lives. Plus we have a family member who's coke addiction went a little far," she looks down at her legs. "Dad decided for his sake we wouldn't deal it anymore." She shrugs again after she finishes talking.
"How did he get away with the ODing?" I question, not wanting to pry into the family drama as if she wanted me to know she would have told me which family member off the bat.
"Well, a few police were paid off not to say anything, but every month the three families get a pay out for like five grand. Plus he's helped put one of the guys who died brothers through good schools and colleges so he didn't end up taking the same journey as his brother. I think he's in Harvard at the moment. He got a fully paid scholarship."
