Aiden had been forced to wait while (his wives lol) the girls got ready in the living room, so he was stuck in the hallway with Rudy.
Ugh. Girls.
"Now can we come in?" Aiden demanded.
"Yes, yes," Aru called.
Aiden and Rudy walked in to see the Pandava sisters in spectacular outfits. Mini wore a plum colour skirt and sweater, Brynne wore a fuzzy sky-blue jacket, and Aru. Aru only had new pants, bright yellow with white swirls embroidered onto them. It made her stand out, more alive.
Rudy was wearing bright white everything, so he looked like a tooth on a dentist advertisement.
"You guys look almost as good as me," Rudy said.
"Thanks!" said Mini brightly. Then she frowned, realizing the meaning of that.
Aiden scanned them. He stopped at Aru for a second to long, and she seemed to notice. He looked away.
Aru lifted her chin confidently. "Aren't we going to agree we look awesome?"
Yes, one part of Aiden's brain told him.
"You look-" he began, but he looked away.
But his mom. He didn't want to hurt Aru or for Aru to hurt him. Bury it, his brain advised him, and this time he followed the instructions.
Aru leaned forward ever so slightly. "Yeah?"
"Fine." A brief look of hurt flashed across her face. The others didn't notice, Aiden did, but Aru recovered in less than a second.
She herded everyone to the door. "Time to make like a tree and-"
"Oh, Aru, please don't," Mini groaned.
But it was too late.
"LEAVE!" cackled Aru.
