you told kenma what had been happening though not entirely.
In fact, the only thing you disclosed was that you were in a complicated situation with a guy that had a girlfriend but even though you knew it was wrong, it didn't feel wrong at all.
it didn't feel wrong because for some reason, despite akaashi's proclamations of hopelessness, you knew something was there.
you even went on to ask him if you were delusional to actually believe you had a chance.
you described bokuto without naming him, highlighting how the ace seemed to be in a terrible relationship and never really happy at all.
how you always felt the need to make him smile though you weren't exactly sure if it meant you were misunderstanding your sympathy or pity for affection.
"it's the need to get things controlled or the need to fix. I think it's a setter thing since we're usually in control of the ball on the court" kenma had said as he stared at the screen though with a distant look.
as if he was analyzing his past behaviors as well then chuckled as he mumbled "it's a sickness"
it was funny to know that your volleyball history was probably the reason why you wanted to help so much. even when you left kenma's house you thought about it.
kenma didn't bother to warn you about how serious the situation might turn out to be because he already knew you were smart enough to avoid drama if it wasn't necessary.
considering that you actually wanted to see it through with the unnamed guy, he decided that he would bet that something was actually there.
with your fingers skimming over the ice cream tubs in the convenience store you remembered his ultimate advise after hearing all you had to say.
"just ask him, then avoid him"
because whether he liked you or not, there was no action that could be taken. and there was no saving for someone who was comfortable in their distress.
you had so many questions for him. you wanted to ask him what exactly he felt when he was with you or why he was so unhappy. ask him why he was avoiding you but his touches lingered.
why send akaashi first instead of talking to you instead.
of course there was a possibility that he wouldn't answer and there was also a possibility that the answers would be those you didn't want to hear.
the last confrontation with you was even more confusing if you considered it. telling you he didn't regret it and he would do it again but also trying to scare you off by saying you wouldn't both work as if he considered it.
with his hands on your wrist and his breath in your face—your heart still recalled every sensation his presence brung.
confusing.
you didn't understand him at all nor what to believe. and you didn't understand who you were when you were with him.
Bokuto kōtarō was an anomaly.
just like the sudden burst of rain that kept you trapped under the shed at the convenience store while the sun was still high.
just like his tendency to find you in the strangest of places.
at first you had to convince yourself you weren't dreaming though you only ended up trying your best to avoid eye contact with the hallucination.
if I don't look at him he's not there.
you decided to convince yourself just that because, why else would bokuto koutarou be in Nerima ward offering you shelter under his umbrella?
have I gone mad?
stealing a glance to the side, you could see that the older boy wasn't too keen on meeting your eyes either. as if he was caught in a complicated situation.
standing tall in a black T-shirt, black sweats and a fawn blazer, bokuto awkwardly looked to the side as he held the umbrella above both your heads.
"I'm not...stalking you" was all he said as your eyes bored holes into what you expected to be a daydream but it was his voice that sealed the deal.
"Oh oh...oh...wow...bokuto" you lost your voice as you took a step back, stumbling over the low ledge and he caught you by your wrist.
"careful"
feeling his hand on your wrist again sent blood pumping to your face and your heart beat hectically as you came to terms that he was actually right there.
"it looks suspicious.I know. I came to visit a friend but he's not here. I was just getting a drink before I leave...then you were there" he said as he released your wrist slowly and you lowered your gaze from his eyes.
"Oh. alright" all in all, you could barely find words to say to him because you could barely speak over the bubble of embarrassment in your throat.
"do you mind sharing the umbrella with me?" Bokuto asked and you held the small convenience bag with both your hands.
"just a humanly gesture, that's all" he went on to reassure you, but his reassurance was better left unsaid. You would've felt warmer standing in the rain in December.
"if it's no bother to you. I could just wait until-"
"-It's no bother" his response was abrupt. he reluctantly you joined him under the umbrella and he stared you a bit before looking away.
"...I'm just going to the park at the end of the street. thanks"
he hummed a response and took a step forward with you under the rain.
doesn't he usually watch games on saturdays?
why is he here today?
what if that friend is his girlfriend?
the rain stopped falling even before you got to the end of the street but you didn't dare step foot from under the umbrella.
nor did he.
it wasn't as if you got to walk by his side often either way.
still at this rate he will leave before I get to ask anything. if not now then when.
