<Munae's POV>
"So what's the move?" I asked everybody. Everyone was already eating since I woke up late for breakfast. Avery had made some simple pancakes with slices of toast. "We can't trust any of your niggas to find Murriz, so we're gonna have to figure shit out ourselves," Betty said, digging into a pancake.
"I want out of this," Enetta said, slowly eating her food. "I just want to live a normal life."
I glanced at Betty to see her reaction. This was her friend after all. "Enetta, that's not really an option. Until we figure things out you might have a target on your back." She handled that diplomatically.
"Moreover, we can't risk you snitchin to nobody when we're trying to do the right thing," I added.
Betty glanced at me, then took a sip of her water. Maybe I had did too much. Wifey had it handled.
"This isn't fair! I was just Betty's friend. All I did was try to care for her and I ended up looped into this mess," Enetta said, tears rolling down her face.
"Enetta, I get that. Life isn't fair, though and there's nothing we can do to reverse all of this," Celene said softly.
Enetta got up from the table, wiping at her face furiously. Betty stood up to go after her, but Celene beat her to it.
Avery glanced at me. "How are you guys going to figure out where Murriz is and his next move?"
"I don't know," I sighed. "I don't usually have to do these types of things. I usually rely on others to do that," I admitted. "We can figure this out together," Betty assured me, placing her hand over mine. "I'm going back to the hospital and I'll stay with Zeta until Murriz gets there," I decided out loud.
"Munae, that isn't safe. They might kill you," Betty argued.
"Then so be it, I'm the root of all of this."
"At least she's got something right," Enetta said, rubbing a tissue across her eyes. She walked back into the room with Celene in tow.
Betty glared at her friend. "We can use Enetta as bait for Zeta. A hostage to make Zeta have to lure Murriz out." I rose an eyebrow, surprised that my wife would make such a suggestion.
"What? You guys are crazy," Enetta laughed.
She started to march towards the front door but Avery pulled her back. "Baby, I promise you're not gonna wanna do that. These people are serious, boo."
"And I am too. I don't want to participate in this," Enetta stated stubbornly. I got up, Betty's hand brushing against my arm. "I'm gonna have to stop you, Enetta."
"You people are crazy," Enetta said, breaking out into a run towards the door. "Enetta, why are you acting irrational?" I asked in a soothing voice. "Once we figure things out then you will be free, but instead you want to act irrational and risk your life by going out with no protection. You know no valuable information, so they'll simply just kill you or hold you hostage. I guarantee we're not doing anything to get you back if you want to go so bad."
"I know something you don't," she rushed out, fear in her eyes. "Zeta used to have a- a secret basement where she let someone stay there. It- It might have been Murriz. It was at Zeta's house and I know the addy." I could tell that she was lying, but there was the smallest possibility that Enetta could be right.
"You're lying to save your ass. I've known you long enough," I stayed with a harsh laugh.
"I wish I never did," Enetta spat out. She seemed to be searching her brain for the right thing to say. "I slept with Munae," she said to Betty. She licked her lips, "We had sex soo much."
"You're pathetic right now, Enetta," Betty said in a condescending tone, wrinkling her nose at her old friend. "Go out and get killed. We'll have it covered like you died in the worst way and I happen to know your secrets."
"Some friend you fucking were, Betty," Enetta spat out. I let her march out of the door. I glanced back at everyone else. Celene and Avery were the only ones who weren't obligated to help, although they had connections to us.
"If anyone else wants to back out, now's the time," I said, laughing bitterly. I went back to my breakfast, passing by Betty.
"When this is all over we'll laugh back at this time."
"I don't think I'll do much laughing," Celene murmured, and I looked down at my plate.
"I'll drive you to the hospital," Avery volunteered. "But with our bait gone we're gonna have to move fast."
"We'll get some of your friends to send out a message that we have eyes on Enetta and that we let her go. We'll make it seem like we're holding her hostage but she's free to go wherever she wants," Betty suggested, turning to me.
"That's a good idea. I'll call around," I said.
"Then we need to deal with this Lex problem. What if word gets out about what you've done? Nobody's gonna care about what Lex tried with Betty, they're only gonna see that you killed their beloved new leader," Celene commented.
"Then we have to move quicker than Zeta."
"Who says she might not be on our side now? We did save her after all," Betty said, cleaning off her plate.
"We don't have time to wonder about that. We need Murriz lured out."
"How are you gonna deal with facing Murriz, Betty? Do you think you'd have it in you to harm him temporarily or permanently if it came down to it?" Celene asked my wife.
"I've hurt him enough," she said quietly, "but I need to do what needs to be done."
"This world isn't an easy one," I spoke gently.
"When was it ever?" Celene laughed, standing up from the table. "C'mon. Let's get to the hospital."
