"Of course I do."
Skyler responded,
"I don't think I'd ever be able to forget it: our first kiss."
"Second. That photo is of our second kiss."
Violet corrected.
"Remember? We were on that picnic date on the lawn, but our picnic wasn't really a real 'picnic'."
"We got take out sushi in those clear plastic to-go containers and sat on separate shower towels so we didn't have to sit directly on the lawn."
The two chuckled.
"Like I said, it wasn't really a picnic, was it?"
"No, not really, but we were doing it exactly the way we wanted to do that's what matters, right?"
"Right. And I made sure to leave my phone off and in the dorms. Which, was a total mistake, but more like a-"
"Totally intentional accident that you thought backfired but ended up being great?"
"Hey, I hadn't checked to see how cold it would be! I was totally unprepared for the cloud coverage! But, then you gave me your jacket, even though you looked pretty cold too."
"And you were so swept off your feet but it that you asked me to officially be your girlfriend right then and there."
"Haha, yep, I remember. I wanted to take you out, somewhere nice that would set the mood, but you just had to bring that perfect atmosphere right with you and ruin all my plans, huh?"
"Oh yeah, that totally sounds like me, Vi."
"That's how you feel to me."
"Mmmm."
Skyler burred her face in Violet's hair.
"And so I asked, and by some miracle, you said yes and pulled me into a kiss. You know Sky, you're really my leading lady in all this, and I you can tell me all you want that the atmosphere was just 'so romantic', but I won't take that for an explination; so, what made you accept right then and there. Truthfully, I thought me asking was moving things a little too fast for you."
"Well. You always had made sure to leave your phone behind whenever we went out, and I'd never seen you do that for anyone else; I knew how important all that is to you, how it's sometimes a clutch, I totally get it, but you still made sure to leave it behind. You always made sure that the date was all that you were focusing on, that I was the only thing you were focusing on and that meant so much to know that I was always the most important thing to you."
Skyler paused,
"I guess what I mean is, by the time you finally asked, I had made up my mind already."
Violet flipped herself around to meet Skyler for a kiss. And when they broke apart, Skyler continued.
"Then I pulled you in for our first kiss, and there was no cameras, recodings, or commentary; it was just us, being dorks who were so happy that we couldn't keep it all in."
"And then we set up your phone timer and went right back at it-"
"-Just for ourselves. We took that for ourselves, because we wanted to, because there was absolutely no requirement to upload it to social media. Don't get me wrong though, I love that you're using it since, even though it might not be the best picture of me, it's still my favorite one of us. I'm glad that's the one you went with in the end."
"Me too."
Skyler and Violet held their embrace, both drifting off to sleep within minutes from the comfort of the other being so close.
Eventually, Ruby and Jade came back out to see if everything was alright, and they tossed a large blanket on the couple before heading to bed themselves.
They'd be fine, their relationship would be fine, and that's all the security they needed to get though the night; they'd deal with whatever shit was said to them tomorrow, but for tonight, there was nothing but love left hanging in the air.
The End
