REGGIE'S POV

I stand here, thinking about the time, before we died, when Luke would look at me like that. Back when we were dating and he woud smile at me, like nothing could ever make him sad. But he had never smiled at me the way he smiles at Julie. I guess what hurts the most is how quickly he replaced me with Julie. I close my eyes, forcing back tears as I start humming a song I have been working on.

I look up to see whisper something into Julie's ear, making her smile. She leans uo and kisses his lips softly and I quickly look away again, wiping my tears with my sleeve. It hurts, how quickly I was replaced, considering we never actually broke up. But I guess our relationship meant nothing to him. I remember walking along the beach with him and all the little picnics we planned. I hold onto those memories, hoping for something that would help me see how real we were to him.

Now I'm searching through our memories

He picks her up and puts himon her shoulders, laughing and running down the street. He never did that with me. I look away, more tears welling up. I never believed in broken hearts, but now I know what they mean. This pain I feel hurts so bad,

The memory of us would haunt these streets

I'd have so much to say but no words to speak

I'd see you with him at the place we used to meet
Little did I know
You have a smile that I'd never seen

He smiles that smile again. Maybe it's true. Maybe I could never make him happy. Maybe we only happened because he was bored. I keep trying to think lf a time he looked that happy with me.

None of it was real. He was never this happy when he was with me. I could never make him happy. I mean, how could I? Every memory; there was never a time he smiled or laughed like that. He's never looked at me that way. I watch him put Julie back on the ground and spin her around. I make eye contact with him before quickly looking away.

Now I've searched through all our memories

Now I'm seeing all the signs I'd missed

He stops twirling Julie and starts walking towards me.

" Hey Reggie, what's wrong?" He asks. I look him in the eyes sadly.

"The stranger was always you."  I sing softly before turning away, walking briskly down the street we had walked down many times before, desperately trying to get away from him.
