Chloe woke up in the early morning, left with nothing to do before Max woke up, she cleared the room of mess and began to plot her journey to Greenham.
Max didn't wake up for another two hours and when she did eventually climb from her bed she barely spoke a word.
They left the motel room and returned the key to the front office, eventually departing at around 10:30.
The journey way long and tedious, Max spent the entire ride staring lazily out of the window, mumbling to herself. It was about mid way through their trip when the car radio suddenly crackled to life.
"For anyone tuning in just now the search and rescue effort surrounding Arcadia Bay has managed to save the lives of about 50 people. However the casualty list remained unknown yet is predicted to number in the thousands."
It was then Chloe rushed and turned the dial, not wanting Max to think of the previous days events. But to Chloe's surprise Max grabbed the dial and turned the radio back.
"You don't have to listen right now, we can.."
"Chloe! I can't just go around forgetting what I did, I made a decision and people got hurt! I don't even know if my friends are alive, I need to know!" Max said with a passionate yet sad tone.
Chloe's instincts kicked in suddenly, she began talking without really thinking.
"They why did you save me? So many people hurt because you saved me! Why? I should have just been left to die." Her confidence fading quickly as she realised what she had just said.
Max was stunned.
"Because... Because I love you Chloe! And I couldn't go every day with you not there."
They both sat in silence for the rest of the journey, dwelling on their feelings and thoughts. Both wishing the other would talk so they could apologise and clear the tense air.
Greenham was surprisingly full when they arrived, cars and trucks lined street corners and people roamed around looking for people. It was about 2pm when Chloe's truck parked safely outside of the Caulfield residence.
Sitting inside the parked truck they both looked at each other. The silence was loud and obnoxious, only broken when Max finally spoke.
"I sorry, I know your only trying to help me."
Chloe grabbed Max and pulled her in for a hug, stopping her speech.
"No I'm the one who should be sorry, I'm just so used to people being against me that I forgot what it's like to have someone with me again."
Max smiled, she liked that idea 'with' Chloe again.
Promptly, they both left the truck and headed for the front door.
The house was large, much larger than Chloe's. Max's parents moved from Seattle after Max went to Blackwell.
They approached the door together and both seemed to knock at the door at the same time. Almost instantly the door swung open, a tall bearded man stood at the door, his eyes immediately drawn to Max.
"Max! Oh my sweet little teddy bear your safe now." He chuckled as he pulled his daughter into a soft hug.
Max laughed awkwardly and hid her face in an embarrassed panic.
"And this must be... Chloe! My god that hair is eye catching, thank you for saving my little girl." He also pulled Chloe into a similar style bear hug.
Jeffery stood at the door smiling for a good few seconds before he eventually snapped out of his daze and invited the two women inside.
"Just keep your voices down, your mother has only just been able to sleep, she's been worried sick." He mentioned as they entered the kitchen.
They sat in the kitchen for hours, drinking coffee and explaining the events of the previous week. It was at the end of their conversation when Jeff offered to refill their coffee, that the mood suddenly shifted.
"Speaking of coffee, how's Joyce? Does she still make those awesome pancakes down at the the dinner?" He asked innocently.
Max was the first to react, quickly rushing to Chloe's side. "Oh my god Chloe I'm so sorry. We'll go back and... and... oh no." Max remember what happened to the dinner, she remembered the fire and the destruction that was left after the storm. Nobody would have survived.
Chloe smiled weakly, "It's alright, I'm fine. She's dead, I got a voice message when we got back in range of the signal."
Chloe removed her phone from her pocket and tapped at the smashed up screen for a moment.
"I'll leave you too alone for a moment." Jeff said before taking himself into another room.
Pressing the play button on the message it began to play quietly.
"Chloe! Chloe Elizabeth Price if you don't pick up for damn phone... oh what's the point, we can't get anything out, this damn storm."
In the distance they could hear the approaching winds and heavy rain.
"Chloe, please survive this. Get out of Arcadia Bay, run and don't look back. Just remember that I love you and I'm always with you." Joyce was cut off by a sudden thunderous crash and then silence.Chloe sighed and turned her phone off, putting it back into her pocket. "It's ok Max, she's with my dad now, wherever that is." She said with a failing happiness.
Max gripped Chloe in a tight hug, they both remained still and silent.
The quiet was interrupted by Max's mother bursting, teary eyed into the room.
Chloe remained passive, watching as the Caulfield's reunited happily. She felt a strange sense of accomplishment when Max smiled as if she was doing something right. Again they explained the shortened and censored version of the previous weeks events. It was nearly 8pm when they stopped talking, Max and Chloe who had not eaten a proper meal for some days sat hungry in the kitchen.
Conveniently during their conversation Jeff had ordered pizza which arrived promptly.
"You girls must be starved and exhausted, you can use spare room upstairs." Jeff said handing Chloe a pizza box and pointing at the top of the stairs.
Chloe led a ravenous Max up the stairs into the spare bedroom. The walls were bare and the furniture was nothing but a bed and a set of drawers, surprisingly the bedroom had an en-suite which was simple yet allowed for some much needed privacy.
Laying the pizza box on the bed they climbed on and lay next to each other. They devoured the pizza in a matter of seconds, the flavour not mattering to either of them. Finally full they remained laying next to each other, a slight awkward tension hung in the air.
"Back in the truck you said... you said you love me?" Chloe said, a little confused.
"But like in a friendly kinda way or?"
"And if it is the other way then why me? Why not... I dunno, that Kate girl or literally anyone else."
Chloe rambled nervously as they locked eyes.Max lent over slowly and kissed Chloe slowly and calmly on the lips, it was peaceful and right.
"Was that in the friendly way or the romantic way?" The blue haired punk said obliviously.
Max sat up and again kissed Chloe, this time going deeper, draping her arms around Chloe's neck. Chloe understood this time, she was flustered and slightly overwhelmed but still leant into the kiss as if it were an instinct.
"I love you Chloe."
"I live you too Max"
