Flashback
4 year old Juliet was playing outside with her twin sister Athena. Well Juliet was running around while Athena was sitting in pool chair drawing. All of a sudden their Barbie mother came in with her friend Giselle and her 4 sons. They all had dark hair, tan skin and dark eyes. Those little boys were rebellious, all except one. Mason, Jesse and Nate started running all over as soon as they entered the backyard. They brought a lot of toys with them, such as cars, swords and comics and kept themselves occupied. They were running, fighting and screaming altogether. The fourth and youngest one ofcourse was not with them.
Mason, the oldest, was 10 and often riled up the rest of the boys into trouble. Later on, he became a Clark Kent, reserved, picking only a few to be close to him and trusting them with everything. He changed right out of high school and became a firefighter. Jesse, the second oldest, was 8 and really looked up to his older brother. Later on, he grew up to be a socialite, party going, enjoying life kinda guy. He, despite what people thought, was well educated and became an engineer. Nate, was 7 at the time and just followed his brothers around. He just copied everything they do even though at times he didn't want too. Later on, he became the more artistic one of them, as he was good at drawing, music and became a writer. These 3 were inseparable and formed a trio that no one was invited too. Those little boys had trouble telling the twins apart, all except one.
Their youngest brother, Cole was 6 at that time and although he wasn't aware at that time, was in love with Juliet no matter how much she pushed him away or said mean things. Cole would do anything to be with Juliet, play any game she wanted or protect her when his brothers were playing too rough. Here, he was at 6 years old, chasing Juliet around while laughing, catching her and planting a sweet kiss on her cheek.
Flash forward, they all remained close, and saw each other weekly due to their mother's friendship. As they got older, Juliet became meaner to Cole. She had no idea why. All she knew was that he scared her. In middle school is where it got to be the worse. Juliet would just bully Cole. She even made up a song for him. In her small defense, he wouldn't go away so she stepped up her cruelness. One day, Cole was approaching Juliet to ask her something, something that he claimed was important, and Juliet was in a bad mood. She told him it was not the right time but he insisted. After that she starting singing, "Cole Cole go die in a hole" really loudly that everyone heard. During this, she saw his face. It broke her heart when she saw but she couldn't stop herself. Why was she being Cruella de Vil to a guy who was nothing but nice to her, to a guy that accepted her, to a guy that was always there? It was then she saw his eyes, really saw them- the sadness- which she will later regret causing.
Even though she embarrassed and humiliated him publicly, Cole, for a while, would not take no for an answer. There was something about her that he couldn't walk away from. She was a drug to him, poisonous and addictive.
It was a similar situation as from the movie, The Princess Bride, where Cole was Westley and Juliet was Buttercup. Buttercup would torture Westley and he would respond with "As you wish." And that is what Cole did, took all of Juliet's stabbings without a flinch. This was from Cole's point of view.
Juliet wanted high school to be like in the movies-fun. She was not going to let anything stop her. She is not a party girl, she just likes to go out. She doesn't do what the other kids do just likes the company. All through high school, Juliet wanted someone to go out with. Yes, she had friends, but she was missing a closer connection. There was something, or rather, someone that was always interjecting. Cole was always around. Even though she would say that she need space from him, she would feel his absence. What Juliet, or rather Jules did not realize at the time was that everything she wanted, she already had. He was the boy she knew her whole life, the boy that she saw growing up to be a man, the boy who would do anything to make her smile, the boy who would protect her at times that she needed protection, the boy who would hold her hand when she needed it the most and the boy who's eyes looked past her and saw her soul.
So with knowing all of this why was she so mean to him? It would be years later that she would find an answer to this question. After all, if she hadn't pushed Cole away, would he still want her or does he like the chase?
There are many events in which these two were together. There were many events in which the twins and the Mitchell brothers were together. There is one event that sticks out the most, that one event that would make Juliet break down in tears later. One day when they were all in high school, there was a party that they were all invited too. It was on the beach. It was drinks and campfire. That was all. Athena, forced to come, was miserable and could not wait to go home. Jules, wanted to come, was miserable and did not want to go home. Athena brought a book to read but realized too late that it was too dark to read it. She just stood around Jules and the rest of her friends, waiting and praying for her own to show up. Don't get her wrong, the twins were getting along at this age but they had different interests and friends. They felt a little out of place when they were with the other's friends. So that was Athena at the moment, out of place more than usual with Jules' friends.
Jules, Cathy, Sandy and Marcy grabbed a drink, took one sip and started dancing. Jules who has brown hair and blue eyes, was looking for a night off. Cathy, who has dark hair and dark eyes was looking for a guy that would sweep her of her feet. Sandy, who has blonde hair and blue eyes was looking to spend time with her friends. Marcy who has long light brown/dark blonde hair and hazel eyes was also looking for a night off and away from her parents. Athena, was just standing awkwardly there looking around for any sign of Cody or Carly to help her escape this torture.
Enter the Mitchell brothers. As soon as they arrived, all the guys ran over to them and gave them a "bro" hug. The guys were mostly around the 3 older brothers, while the 4th had other things, well other people, well another person in mind. He spotted Juliet right away. He saw Athena there looking miserable. He saw Juliet there looking like she's having fun but he knew that was a lie. He knew that in reality she was crying on the inside. She wouldn't show it on the outside but on the inside Juliet wasn't what she seemed. Cole knew that because he was with her when it all happened, he was with her when she needed him the most.
It all happened 6 years ago. Juliet and Athena had a cousin named Alice, who was like an older sister to them. Alice was having trouble with her parents so she stayed at their house for a few months. One day, everyone was over aka the Mitchell family. Alice went to meet someone and was going to come soon. The adults went to the backyard while the kids decided to play games in the living room. As they were playing Monopoly, Juliet gets a phone call. She answers to a distraught Alice who was not making any sense. Alice was crying and mumbling so Juliet went outside on the front porch. Cole saw how pale Juliet got and followed her to make sure she was okay. Within a minute, Alice was seen walking over to the house crying but then saw Juliet and waved. As she is crossing the street, a car was speeding and ran Alice over. Juliet was screaming and Cole grabbed her steady. It all happened so fast there was no time to register. Juliet never got to find out why Alice was distraught, the accident had nothing to do with the phone call, it was just some drunk punk driving and speeding. Juliet was never able to forgive herself. Cole wouldn't leave her side even when she wanted space. She just needed to breathe. But to Cole that meant she needed him more.
After that, it seemed as though Juliet just pressed a switch. She became different, more reserved and mean to Cole. She didn't want to be, she didn't know why she was but all she knew was that she needed space from him. Cole still wouldn't let go and their situation began to be Westley's and Buttercup's.
Now, 6 years later, at the party, Jules wanted nothing to do with Cole. Well that is what she kept telling herself. She knew she regretted never thanking him. He definitely deserved a "thank you" at least. But there he was with his brothers looking at her. And there she was with her friends looking at him. She was hoping that he wouldn't approach her but she was wrong. Cole approached her and asked if she wanted to drink. She showed him her cup and shook her head no. He then asked if she wanted to dance and she pointed to herself showing that she already was. He then began to ask something else but Jules interrupted him, "No Cole no, whatever it is no. Just go back to your brothers. " Cole was just about to say something but Jules has had enough, "DON'T YOU GET IT. NO!" She threw her drink on him and walked away. She never found out what Cole was about to ask. She just wanted to dance with her friends and not be interrupted. From that moment, Cole turned off his switch and just stopped. Can she blame him though? She just embarrassed him more than usual in front of everybody? Why Juliet why?
