Nexerians.
They are the type of species which look as complete humans but beside their appearance, they are cannibals who feed onto human beings. They can be similar to ghouls but very differently. In their true form, they have metamorphic abilities, like emerging wings to fly, or extend their nails as a weapon, and sharp teeth to bite. Their skin is pale blue, and ears pointed. They grow very quicker, as of a caterpillar turning to an adult butterfly.
Aside from that, you, Y/N, were interested in these species rather to be scared of them. Maybe because you never encountered one, but their characteristics was what drove you in. While fondly reading the book about these Nexerian creatures in the library, your friend, Y/F/N slowly stepped in and saw what you were reading. Making a disgusted face, she slaps your back, making you flinch.
"Ow, what was that?!" You cried, seeing your friend giving a wicked smile, you shaking your head knowing your demon's back. "Oh, it's you."
"Yes, it's me! Who else, dumbass?" Your friend replied, chuckling. "But what are you even reading, come on, about Nexerians?"
"Yeah! I-it's just I find them.. interesting?"
"Ohhh, someone's having a crush on these creaturesss?" Your friend teased, making you blush.
"Hey, that's not it! I cannot actually go and interview a Nex about how they live and adapt to surroundings."
"What if you actually met a Nex, and you had the chance to know about them more? Even if it takes to fall in love with them?" Y/F/N raised an eyebrow, and maybe for no reason your cheeks flushed red. Falling in love with a Nex? Was it normal?
"It's impossible. You know the nexes and humans have a strange relationship. One eats the other meanwhile one wants to kill the other, both have a purpose to survive, basically. And if you were correct, about me being friend with a Nex, then I guess what to do." You prepared to leave, but your friend suddenly grabbed your arm, stopping you midway.
"I do understand these creatures are dangerous, Y/N. But, you gotta be careful too. We cannot trust Nexes because they only have one purpose - eat the human they hunt down. I hope you get what I mean, right?"
You sighed and turned back to your friend. "I do get you. And don't have to worry about me, okay? It's just for research purposes that I'm doing it all, otherwise I won't be thinking to do such a risky thing."
"You promise that you'll come back alive to me, will you?"
"Pinkie promise." You grinned and by that, you and your friend have a hug, before bidding each goodbye and you left for home.
While leaving for the way home, you saw multiple police cars passing by, along with an ambulance which stopped at the middle of the footpath. You couldn't go too near the scene but, the visible part was a dead body, which got eaten and pierced. It kind of horrified you to the core, and just thought of going home instead. The atmosphere was slowly turning gloomy and darker, as if the street lights didn't flash up yet. It did felt too eerie and creepy while your way home all alone by yourself, like something was going to come and attack you.
The street was empty, with no sign of anybody, even an animal. It was just you and you only. Gulping and keeping some strength by your side, believing you'll be out of this scary place soon, what can actually go wrong-
Snarl. You heard a little sound, was someone really out there? It sounded like a dog, but didn't felt like it could be. Walking a bit faster, with now fear building up inside, eager to reach the end of this dark path, the snarling grew more louder. You stopped midway, and looked everywhere around you, though it was so empty around, but now it was looking like there's something out there. Hearing a twig break, that made you turn around to the direction the sound came. You tried not to be panicked, maybe it was just your imagination, or current fear which tried hallucinating you.
But, it was no longer an illusion. When you start looking above a tree you payed attention to, you shrieked louder. You were wrong, you weren't alone. It was the creature, which was cling along the tree with it's sharp nails, growling at you with the saliva dripping through it's mouth.
Was it a Nexerian?
Backing off, hoping not to alert the creature, it landed on the ground, and began crawling towards you. Your breath heaved and panic grew, afraid of the creature which tried to attack you. Finding the right time, you started running faster, farther away from the Nex but it suddenly started running too. It was way more faster, as it emerged it's wings and flew towards you, almost clenching your dress. Screaming through the grip, you tried taking it off while escaping, but the grip was quite strong that ripped off the little fabric instead. Not caring about the dress, you kept on running, finding a safe place to hide. You hid behind a tree, taking your phone out to contact your friend, but the signals ran out, making you completely helpless.
All you can do was to cover your mouth and stay hidden. The Nex was still out there, trying to find it's prey. You tried not to cry because, you didn't wanted to die this soon. It was just a matter of time you had to encounter such a situation. The Nex started smelling your fragrance, trying to detect where you're hiding. Feeling it's footsteps coming closer, you collected your thighs to clench them together, and hold onto your mouth, and shut your eyes. It was only a matter of seconds, when the footsteps stopped. You open your eyes and tried to hear if the Nex was still there or not. Quietly looking beside the tree, it seemed the creature went away. Sighing in relief, you gently got up, and without making a sound, you prepared to leave home quickly. But, as you arrived at the footpath, a monsterous shriek was heard, making you turn around and see the Nex was still there. Widening your eyes in horror, it seemed it was no use now. You were about to get hunted. It started approaching near you, charging it's claws. Defending yourself with your arms, a gunshot was heard, that startled you.
The Nex after getting shot, fell down from the huge height, getting ultimately killed. You could only look at the body in horror, not knowing who actually did it. But, you heard some footsteps again, emerging out from the trees itself. Seeing the figure, you itself cannot believe it.
"Tony Stark?" You said, in surprise.
Yes, it was Stark. It came out with his repulsor hand, still sizzling after using it. It retracted back to his watch, approaching you.
"Hey, there lovely." He smiled. "I think this is why, women like you shouldn't be out here alone. What are you even doing here, little Missy?"
"Wait, you tell me first! What you are you doing here? Were you seeing me trying to survive from a Nex this all time?" You replied, in a questioning tone. "You wanted to die?!"
"No, it's not. I was actually aware that a Nex was hidden here and hunting down whatever humans went through this path. I'm a hunter, by the way."
".. woah.. you mean the Iron Man itself, is a hidden Nexerian hunter?" You chuckled. "Dude, you gotta be kidding me."
"I'm not, it's the truth. Me along with the Avengers itself are Nexerian hunters who try to attack human kind."
"But why didn't I see you around here, it really felt as if I was alone!"
"It not important that a hunter should be visible in front of a victim. It can be hidden but always looking at you."
You were quiet, as you only open your mouth. "Oh. That's why? Well, that's strange."
"Strange, right? Be sure not to enter this road, there are high chances a Nex can be hiding there. And I think it's not wise that you'll still go walk your way home through here again."
".. so what's the plan?" You rub your head.
"You have to come with me. You'll be safe here because, it's free from any Nex attacking our place. After when things are settled and safe, you can go home, I promise."
You thought twice before agreeing to go with Tony. He did seem to promise that he'll protect and send you back when things get normal. Of course, being attacked by a Nex sure is so.. terrifying.
Having no choice, you nod your head. "Okay, I'll come with you. If any Nex came to attack me, I'm leaving-"
"Aw, come on, will you now waste time in excusing?" Tony rolled his eyes.
"Hey, I'm not, okay? I am-"
"We're getting late, come with me, I have a car nearby." Tony walks away, and you stood there confused. He stopped and turned back. "Will you follow me or wanna be hunted again?"
"Okay, okay I'm coming, jeez!" You ran towards the male, who brought you to his car, first letting you come in by opening the door. "Ladies first." He winked. Don't know why you blushed. Stepping and seating inside the car, he too got in soon, and started the engines, immediately leaving for Stark's mansion.
You thought to yourself. "Oh dang, this is gonna be so uneasy."
