Another Dimension

Chapter 5-Camp

Inside there was a long corridor with huge pictures hung on the wall. Surprisingly, I was able to recognize some people from the picture. There was a picture of Carol with bear fur on her back alongside Gabriel. "Oh wow, someone started checking out on me." I didn't realize I was busy staring at the picture while she crossed half of the corridor. "Oh, I was just seeing. What is this picture about?" She looked at the picture I was referring to and gave me a smirk. "That was the picture taken for winning our camp hunt of last year. We both went as a team. If we went with my brother, he would have been slacking a bit." "I see". "You can admire that picture for long as you want and feel bad for being so single. I just want you to meet our camp director and get over with". I honestly don't know what to say, so I decided to go with her silently.

We entered a big room where I saw a man in his 40s. He had a salt pepper hairstyle neatly combed. He was wearing his sweats. He saw me and gave me a welcoming smile. I awkwardly give him a smile back. 

There was an awkward silence for a couple of seconds and it was Carol who broke it. " We have a new recruit, Derek. This is Maya hart who we found at the field". "Welcome to the camp Maya, I am Derek the camp director. You can call me Derek. If you are stuck anywhere, you can always come to me or James who is also managing the camp." He seemed pretty friendly." Ok Derek, can you tell me about this camp, I have no idea or how I came here". 

Derek looked at Carol and Carol avoided his eyes.

He gave a sigh. " Well since no one cared to enlighten you guess I am the only one who should. You see you are in another dimension of the world. People here survive like those ancient tribes." I was dumbfounded. I asked, "Is there no way out of this world? " Derek looked at me with a pitying sense of feeling and said, "There is a way out for every problem a human goes through. The way out of here is very complicated because many have tried but never came back alive." When he said that, my whole body was heated up. Was it because of the direct sunlight from the window falling on me or is it despair and hopeless feeling that was piling kept on piling?

As we were walking out of the cabin Carol asked me, "Hey, you, ok?" For some reason that "you, ok?" made my heart flutter. I clutched my chest and responded, " Ya, I'm. I'm fine" What else can I say after hearing such a thing from Derek? Carol gave me a pat on the back and said, " Don't worry everything will be fine. " God, it became awkward. So, I decided to change the subject and asked, "So what are we going to do now?'' Carol who turned her head towards me widened her gorgeous amber eyes at me and said, "Well, that was quick. You're a tough one aren't ya?" I shrugged and gave my sly smile. Well, I am a natural actress. I have lived my entire life like this anyway fear of making others unhappy and never mind about what I am going through because to me seeing the people I love being happy somehow gives me a boost to do something great. "So, tell me what are we going to do? '' Carol thought hard and long and finally came to a conclusion, "Let's get you a room first before you won't.''
