CHAPTER FIVE- Witchy Shit
POV: Body

..............................................

This Cal person got to work immediately, pulling out chalks and candles while flipping through different books rapidly. Grant sat nervously at their kitchen table, his leg bouncing. Renee was trying to talk to Bella, who-- hilariously-- kept ignoring her.

I took my time observing the room, which didn't look as cult-y as I would have expected. There were a few candles and gems, but no viles of pig blood.

As Cal set up, they would randomly start firing questions at me. "You're a real angel, huh? That's neat. Were your wings all feathered like on TV?" or "What does not having a soul feel like?" or "Where did you get that earring, it's cute."

I answered the questions with little interest. Yeah, pretty much. Empty. I don't know.

They seemed particularly interested in the details of our story. Carefully setting candles around the room, they turned to me with another question twinking in their eyes. "So, did you know the demon that took your soul?"

"Yeah." I hummed, remembering the treacherous dickwad. Though his smirking face came to my mind, I couldn't conjure up any hatred or annoyance. "He was my boyfriend."

Cal's eyes widened. "Shit-- really? I--I'm sorry, that must have been horrible."

I shrugged. "I don't really care all that much."

Bell, who was more interested in what we were talking about than Renee's kind attempts at w7 a/wwwwww//6/conversation, pitched in. "A soul-sucking demon? Sounds like someone Cal would date, honestly."

Cal rolled their eyes, returning to positioning the candles. After a moment of silence--other than Renee's idle chatter--Cal turned back to me. "Did you--like-- know that he was a demon?"

"Yes, I didn't think it meant he was evil." My lips pursed. "I was wrong." The silence between us went for a moment.

Cal seemed to be thinking. It took me a moment to realize that they must be uncomfortable by the lack of conversation going on right now.

I awkwardly shifted. "Uh-- have you been... witching for a while?"

Cal visibly brightened at being asked a question. They grinned. "Yes, since I was old enough to walk. It's a family business." They finally set down the last candle and stepped back, nodding in approval. "Even so... I've never really seen anything like this. While I've seen soulless humans... they usually die quite quickly."

"Oh. Fun." I said.

"I... am not quite sure this will work," Cal admitted. "I had to mix a few different spells to try to do this and--well. Okay. There was one time I was trying to dye my hair blue, right?"

I raised an eyebrow, confused by the random side-track. "Okay..."

"And I had this dark purple already and some green, so I tried mixing those--"

"Let me guess," Grant spoke up, surprising me. I hadn't thought he was listening. "You were shocked to find it brown?"

"Yes!" Cal said, "It was sooo brown. I was like 'isn't the green supposed to draw out the purple's blue undertones?', but apparently I was wrong. So... I tried adding some yellow and it was still pretty brown and-- well, you know, many colors later I just had a... this diarrhea mess of a hair dye color. Moral of the story is that... mixing doesn't always go as planned."

"Maybe the moral of the story is that you obviously don't know how colors work." Grant drawled.

Cal pouted. "I know how colors work."
