It had just turned 12am, the sky was dark and there were small stars in the sky. Kate looked up at them and lay down on the grass in her wedding dress, not caring if she got it covered in mud. Why should it matter? She didn't need it now anyway. Might as well wear it once. So as not to waste the money. Of course, she didn't care about the money, it's not as if Ben was alive to care so she was really free.
Her plan had worked. And was it meant to? Well, maybe not the way she anticipated. Scare him, make him think she's psycho and leave her. She'd done it before, twice, not ending well before but everyone says 3rd time lucky, don't they? Besides, rudi was far more attractive than Ben would ever be. Maybe it was fate this happened. She knew his secrets, he was bound to ruin the honeymoon one way or another. She closed her eyes and thought back. Rudi was there, bless him, but he didn't do much. The revenge felt good. Revenge for what Ben did. She felt around the small pocket and pulled out the pistol, 3 bullets left. She had three chances, maybe this was her 3rd time lucky. But why would you do that? 3 days before your wedding, you sleep with your fiancées sister. Kate couldn't blame him, she was an attractive girl. But Ben was hers. She won him, bought the drugs, paid the money, and it was all going so well. She looked at the gun, thinking what it had seen. Well, of course that night. She'd drugged him, planning of course to meet with rudi. 1 day now. Plan was in action.
She tried on the dress. It fitted. Noone would notice her stomach, surely? She damn hoped they didn't. Ben was drowsy, slumped over against the headboard and slurring his words. Kate smirked. 23 hours and he would be all hers, all her sister's, that retched leech, a bloodsucking parasite that only hung onto Kate to ask for forgiveness before latching onto another man, kates new boyfriend, partner, soul mate. When she sat down in the chair, Ben made his way over to her, falling over nothing as he tried to function. She pushed him onto the bed and slapped him, he wouldn't remember anything, maybe a bruise but nothing other. The drink, he was daft enough to not realise the taste and smell, dumb shit.
The sun rose, it was 9am and time for her wedding day, the wedding list had a new victim all lined up and ready to go. She left the room, and got into the dress. Pulled the pistol out the sock drawer and placed it in the pocket. This was it, she knew, the fate would want him injured at the very least.
The wedding march played, the wedding was small, only the two of them and the minister. And, as they turned to face each other, she felt into the pocket, drew her hand up. She smiled. That innocent smile, so close to her sister's. So close to the one she knew he loved more. Their marriage would be a ticking time bomb waiting to explode and end, she knew it. So there she was, hand behind her back, 4 bullets, two for each of them. And she shot. Only 3 times, the priest was dead by 1. Kate ran, stuffed the gun in the pocket and ran to the telephone box."Rudi, rudi, love, he's dead, and I didn't mean it, they're both dead, I should never have done this." Kate sobbed into the line, the dress was sticking around her body and she knew he would see the bump. She drove the car, a blue Ford, to rudis house. She had one bullet. Rudi opened, staring at her before landing his eyes on her stomach, 5 months at least. So she shot again. 3rd time lucky. 3rd person. Rudi fell to the floor and she ran again, this time to nowhere, to a field where she pulled the line of ammunition from the back of her underwear and loaded the gun. She found an empty field and lay down. For hours.
And so she drew the gun. To her head.
"You weren't a mistake. Just the product of a mistake. Please find your real mother."
And when she held the gun, she took 3 deep breaths.
"I'm coming rudi." 3 shots.
And there she lay.And when they found her, it was ruled a suicide. The papers went nuts. "Passion crime: newly weds groom shot dead." "Mystery man, god help the bride." Later when they analysed, they found a little one inside, rudis child.
But she got the guy.
She got him on the wedding list. She got him. And she did not miss.
