I saw you lookin' brand new overnight
I caught you lookin' too but you didn't look twice
You look happy oh hmm
You look happy oh woah

"No lies, no secrets, no matter how much it hurts." Skye took his girlfriend's hands and held it to his chest. "Promise me, Brooke."

Brooke nodded with a soft smile on her lips. "I promise, Skye."

Skye regretted not making her promise in a church that day.

Flashin' back to New York City
Changin' flights so you'd stay with me
Remember thinkin' that I got this right

"I can't do this anymore, Skye. I'm sorry."

Brooke broke up with Skye through a text message while he was away from her. She knew he couldn't get to her no matter how hard he tried so she took that opportunity to simply give up and let go.

"Why so sudden, Brooke?"

"Is there someone else?"

"Please talk to me."

Despite his messages, Skye never got any response except silence. Brooke already made up her mind, and she didn't want anything to do with Skye anymore.

Skye regretted not noticing things have changed.

Now I wish we'd never met
'Cause you're too hard to forget
While I'm cleanin' up your mess
I know he's takin' off your dress
And I know that you don't but if I ask you if you love me
Hope you la-la-la-la lie to me

Skye saw how Brooke gave up as easily as she said she won't ever leave him. He saw how Brooke seemed to find it okay to find someone else just days after she broke up with him. He saw how the girl he loved with everything he could, leave him to go for the easy road.

Skye knew Brooke wouldn't stay with him if he ever went away, even if it was for their own future. He knew she couldn't take it, yet he still took the risk. He told himself it was for Brooke and for their future together.

Skye regretted ever convincing himself to go.

It's 3 AM and the moonlight's testin' me
If I can make 'til dawn then it won't be hard to see
I ain't happy, oh hmm
I ain't too happy, oh hmm

Skye woke up day after day with his pillow wet from tears of grief and regret. He still woke up, but every night he asked for someone, or something, to just take him in his sleep.

He was living, but inside he felt dead. Nothing mattered anymore, nothing made sense. But, he still woke up each day, reliving his pain over and over again.

Skye regretted being too weak and scared to do someting.

Flashin' back to New York City
Changin' flights so you'd stay with me
Problem was I thought I had this right

Years passed and Skye still hasn't moved on. His head was filled with memories with Brooke, yet he was too afraid to even check on her. He knew people who would know how Brook was doing, but he just couldn't make himself ask.

Each day, he would cry and cry until he felt drained, then drink as much alcohol to quench his thirst. He knew it could kill him, and also knew that it would someday.

Skye regretted doing the same things over and over again.

Now I wish we'd never met
'Cause you're too hard to forget
While I'm cleanin' up your mess
I know he's takin' off your dress
And I know that you don't but if I ask you if you love me
I hope you la-la-la-la lie to me

Skye decided to finally do something. He knew nothing would happen if he just continued killing himself slowly each day. He knew his friends and family would understand why he had to do this now, almost a decade after everything started.

Skye took his bag of necessities and made his way to the train station. He needed to move early so he could get there before nighttime. But, when he got to the station, the train had already left.

Skye regretted not moving fast enough to catch his ride.

Singin' la la la la
La la la la la la
La la la la la la
La la la la la la

As soon as he stepped out of the train, a lone tear fell from his left eye. He knew the place all too well, and he couldn't deny the fact that he missed it.

For the first time in a decade, Skye let a smile show on his dry and chapped lips. He let his skin tingle from the warm wind, and his feet tap with excitement.

Dropping his bag to the sand, Skye glanced up and saw he was right on time– the sun was just starting to set. He walked calmly towards the edge of the beach, right where the waves met the shore.

Skye regretted not deciding to go here before.

And I know that you don't but if I ask you if you love me
I hope you la-la-la-la lie to me

As Skye walked towards where the waves were formed, he felt at peace. He felt nice and rested, and knew that from then on, everything will be alright.

Regrets flashed through his mind like a hurricane in a calm field, but they disappeared just as fast. He regretted doing and not doing a lot of things, but it didn't matter anymore.

Because, as he closed his eyes and drew a deep breath, he knew he regretted not letting himself go earlier the most.
