"Babe, babe, babe." She nudged him repeatedly in the side, grinning like an idiot when he groaned and rolled onto his stomach, burying his face in the pillow. "Baaaaaaaaaaaabe~" she drawled out, nuzzling his back with her nose. "Wake up or I'll tickle you."
He groaned again, muffled words something along the lines of "what" and "time".
"It's time to get up o'clock," she responded, gently trailing her fingers up his bare side, smiling when he giggled tiredly and arched away, and she totally ignored the ripple of his muscles. "C'mon! I made you something!"
"'M tired," he replied, shoving his arms underneath the pillow. "Later."
"No, not later. Now," she insisted. "I spent like six hours making this. Get up and try it, Kyle."
"What'd you make?"
"Horchata de arroz."
At that, he pulled his head up from the pillow, blinking blearily at the iced drink in her hand, a cinnamon stick peeking just over the rim of the glass. "Where'd you learn to make horchata, (Y/N)?"
She grinned cheekily. "Tik Tok."
"Oh, wonderful. You learned how to make an authentic Mexican drink from some white person on the internet." Kyle muttered and she puffed her cheeks.
"Hey! I found the recipe on an authentic page!" She felt heat dust her cheeks when he started cackling. "Stop laughing at me! I spent all this time preparing it just for you!" (Y/N) shoved the drink in his face. "Try it."
Kyle's eyes found hers, the corner of his mouth raised as he leaned forward and sipped it. When he didn't say anything, she leaned forward. "Well?"
He cleared his throat. "How much Abuelita did you put in this?"
(Y/N) thought for a moment. "Uh...an entire tablet? The guy in the video only did half but I figured I'd measure it with my heart." She winced. "Did I measure too much love?"
"Nah, it's perfect," he murmured, taking the cup from her before sucking down half of it. "Tastes great." His green eyes flitted to hers. "So, why'd you spend six hours making horchata for me?"
She went quiet, twiddling her thumbs as she murmured, "You said your mom used to make it for you when you were a kid." (Y/N) gazed at him. "I just...wanted to do something nice to remind you of her." Gesturing to the drink, she added, "I know it's not her recipe, but...it's the thought that counts, right?"
A lovesick and bittersweet smile crossed Kyle's lips, and he set the horchata on the nightstand before reaching over and wrapping his arms around her waist. He tugged her down to the bed, yanking the covers over the two of them as he tangled their legs together, resting his forehead between her shoulder blades.
"Babe?" he gave no response. "Kyle? Are you alright?"
He sniffed rather loudly, and she lately realized that the back of her shirt was becoming soaked. "I love you."
(Y/N) smiled, reaching down to hold his arms where they were wrapped around her waist. "I love you too, Kyle."
