Marella Redek, The Sanctuary, the Himalayas
“Why exactly are we here again?” Marella yelled over the howling wind. Sophie had hailed her in the middle of the night, claiming that there was an emergency. Then she had taken almost all of their friends AND the nine idiots from the other dimensions, and teleported to the Sanctuary. Or to be more specific, right outside of it in the freezing cold.
“All the pieces fit,” Sophie replied, the worry crease between her brows deeper than ever. “All of these people showing up here, the space time coordinates pointing to the Himalayas, and now Silveny’s warning.”
“What warning?” probed Keefe.
“Two dragons have been spotted near the Sanctuary,” she said. “According to Grady, dragons are the only extinct animal. The last dragons died years ago. Apparently they were extremely difficult to control, although the ancient council tried to keep them in the Sanctuary. They all killed each other.”
Jurek, the Sanctuary caretaker, rushed out of the mountain.
“Thank goodness you came,” he exclaimed. “Although you’ve brought quite an entourage. I was just about to hail you, but I guess the alicorn did it first.”
“Yes, she did,” Sophie informed him. “Which way did the dragons go.?”
“That way,” Jurek said, pointing west. “They seemed to be...fleeing from something.”
At that moment, two humanoid creatures emerged from the cliffs to the east.
“Dementors wearing...armor?” Luna said skeptically.
Whatever ‘dementors’ were, Marella did not like the way they made her feel when they drew near. She felt as if all the joy was being sucked out of her, leaving only heartbreak, despair, and hopelessness.
“Where are they?” hissed one of the creatures, backing them into the wall of the cliff. The creature’s rancid breath smelled as if something had died inside of it, probably centuries ago.
“W-who?” Sophie asked, her voice trembling.
“The prisoners,” the creature hissed. “Which way did they go?” Suddenly, the creature began to choke. Shadows rose up out of it, seeming to drain it of its power. Marella glanced to the side and saw Tam and Nico combining shadows into a powerful beam that sucked out the creature’s life. “You can’t stop his army,” choked the creature. “Chaos is coming.” He collapsed into the snow, his coloring now more of a dull gray rather than black. Marella set it on fire for good measure, although it quickly went out.
“Well, I don’t know what that was about,” she said, turning to her companions. To her confusion, none of them looked surprised at all. In fact, the group that the portal had barfed up most recently were all deathly pale.
“His army is coming here,” one of the girls said. “And he’s coming right now.”
