Foot to the floor

The next day Zulema had woken up first as usual, and was sat at the table drinking a cup of coffee with a cigarette in the other hand. Macarena was still asleep, as Zulema occasionally watched her making her little squirrel noises she does in her sleep. She thought it was very cute. It wasn't long before Maca began to wake up and turned over to face Zulema. Zulema noticed her awake but didn't say anything. She wanted to but it wasn't in her personality to say good morning to anyone, even Maca.

"What have I said about smoking in here Zulema. Outside or not at all," she moaned as she sat up. Zulema ignored her and purposefully took another drag of her cigarette to annoy Maca; an extra long drag. She glared at the brunette with a stern face.
"So you're just gonna ignore what I just said?"
"Sí," came the short reply from Zulema as she exhaled the cloud of smoke that drifted its way across the trailer, unintentionally heading towards Maca.
"Unbelievable," sighed Maca under her breath as she got out of bed and made her way to the bathroom. Zule watched her walk away; oh how she loved winding up the blondie.

...

"Zulema. I'm going to the supermarket, is there anything we need?" Shouted Maca up to Zulema who was sat on top of the van as always.
"I need more cigarettes. And a bottle of tequila," came the reply as Maca noted down on a piece of paper with a roll of her eyes.
'Of course the only things Zulema wants is alcohol and drugs,' she thought. Grabbing her coat, she walked out of the van and spoke up to the brunette again. "Anything else before I go?"
"No," she replied before Maca began to walk to the car, "oh, we need some tampons. There's none left," she suddenly remembered.
"Vale," Maca replied.
"Cuídate Rubia. Our faces are everywhere," Zulema reminded Maca that they are wanted criminals for all of the heists they have done. It was very risky to be seen in public.
"Lo sé," she said as she headed to the car.
Even though she knew it was a necessity, Macarena hated going shopping. What made it worse was that Zulema never went. It was always Maca. Sometimes she would ask her to go instead or to go with her but she would always refuse and that made the blonde angry. Maca doesn't  want to get caught as much as Zulema doesn't so it's only fair that they split their trips to the shops.

Maca was halfway through her shopping when she looked up to notice a policeman in the next aisle of the supermarket. A wave of worry ran through her as she subtly but quickly pulled her hoodie up over her head. The police officer kept looking over at her but didn't seemed concerned. Trying not to make herself obvious and draw attention to herself, she quickly picked up the last few things she needed to get and headed to the checkout. The police officer seemed to have gotten closer, a risky distance for him to be able to recognise Maca. 'Surely he must know who I am,' she thought as she carefully looked at him out of the corner of her eye. Her and Zulema's faces were all over the news, so why isn't anyone noticing her?

The officer appeared closer yet again as Maca was just finishing at the checkout. It was clear now that he recognised her as he kept looking over at her. Maca rapidly walked out of the shop and after looking behind her to make sure he wasn't following, ran to her car with the keys ready. She clicked the button and the car unlocked as she arrived.

"Joder joder!" She muttered in a panic under her breath as she threw the items onto the back seat o the car. She fumbled around with the key to try and put it into the ignition. "Come on come on!" The car finally fired up but as she looked up, she saw the policeman running to his car. He was coming.

She quickly sped off out of the car park, hoping to get away before he followed. But it was too late. He drove after her with the sirens on. "Joder!" She shouted with fury as she slammed her foot to the floor as the car sped off faster. The police car tailing Maca's car as it eventually caught up to her. She quickly scrambled for her phone but couldn't find it
"Come on, joder!" She screamed as she searched some more.
Eventually finding it, Maca called Zulema, desperately hoping she would pick up but knowing Zulema, as usual she probably wouldn't. She never answered Maca's calls. She claims, "there's no point because it's usually a pointless message and if it's an emergency she'll ring again or leave a message."

As Maca thought, Zulema wasn't answering. Perfect. "Come on puto elfo del infierno. Answer!" She shouted as she juggles driving with one hand and holding her phone in the other. After what felt like an age, Zulema eventually answered. "Qué Rubia," she answered calmly, completely unaware what was going on.
"Zulema, the police! They've found me! Fuck!" Maca screamed into the phone as her foot was completely to the floor, trying to speed away from the police car.
"What?! Rubia?!" Zulema's voice suddenly changed. She suddenly became extremely concerned.
"I'm in the car being chased by a fucking cop! joder! What the fuck do I do?!"
"Stay calm Rubita. Just keep driving." She tried to keep her relaxed as much as she could, even though she was panicking, but it wasn't working. Zulema often thought that by calling Maca Rubita, that it would always make her feel more relaxed and calmer. It usually did, in most situations, but right now, it did nothing.
"Hijo de puta. Joder, Zulema, go, leave now! Quickly!" She pleaded.
"No Maca! I'm waiting here," she stated stubbornly as usual. Maca just didn't want the police to catch Zulema too. She had no idea what to do or where to go.
"But where do I go? I can't go back to the van because they'll catch you!" Maca exclaimed.
"It's fine, just head back here. I'll deal with him when you get here," Zulema replied. Maca shook her head in disagreement but knew that she couldn't argue with Zulema. She would never win.

After what seemed like hours of driving, Maca was reaching home. With the police still tailing her car, she sped down through the forest track towards the lake where their caravan is. She wondered how Zulema was going to deal with the police officer. Knowing her, it would probably be something dangerous and highly illegal. Macarena was worried, as she didn't know what she was about to drive into. With Zulema, it could be anything....
