Zak's Pov

I smiled widely as Darryl opened the gate to the park, unclipping Rat's leash and letting her run around as he shut the gate behind him.

"Well hello muffin man," I joked with a smile, feeling happier when I saw him smile back.

"Hello my dear soulmate," he said in a somewhat formal voice, making me giggle slightly. I watched as Rat jumped over Rocco over and over like he was some sort of log, which he might as well have been considering how deep he was sleeping.

"Your little dog is so hyper," I smiled, watching her try and wake him up. I heard him laugh a little beside me. "Yeah, she is. Usually she sleeps on my bed though, but she just took a nap so I get why she's a little ball of energy."

We sat in silence for a moment as we watched her play around, eventually getting Rocco to wake up and play with her as well.

I broke the silence with a few thoughtful words. "You know, before I met you I had this list of questions of what you'd be like or little things about you. I wondered what you'd look like when you smiled, what your laugh would sound like, what you did for fun, if you had a pet, I wondered a lot about you. I don't think I've gone a waking hour without having at least one thought or question about you cross my mind since I was thirteen. One of my biggest questions, though," I turned and faced him, seeing him looking at me as well, "was what your eyes looked like. Now I've seen them, they show just how kind you are without you even saying a word. My mom called them windows to the soul, I think she was right. I can always tell if you're thinking hard about something or if you're happy just by your eyes. Not to mention they're this really pretty green color, I can't place a good word for them, but they're one of the prettiest shades of green I've ever seen."

He looked at me speechless, and I gave him a soft smile before looking away and facing the dogs again, seeing them chasing each other around the park perimeter. "You always seem to wonder what I think about when I get lost in my head. There's a little look into it, for you," I said quietly, closing my eyes and smiling gently as I felt the breeze blow gently across my face.

"Sorry if that made you uncomfortable," I spoke after a few minutes of him being silent, slightly worried I had made him feel weird after saying that. "No no, you didn't. I'm just thinking about what you said," he said defensively. "I'd be lying if I said I didn't think about you a few times myself," he mused, and I smiled slightly at his remark.

We sat in silence for a few moments, and I heard him speak again. "Before I wasn't completely sure about it, but now, I don't really regret going to the coffee shop that day. If I didn't, I wouldn't have met you," he said thoughtfully. "You and your big muffinheadedness, of course," he added, making me turn to him and put my hand over my heart in false offence.

"Rude," I said in a fake hurt voice. He just giggled at me, making my heart flutter. His giggle was adorable, his smile was adorable, everything about him was adorable and amazing in every way possible. From the way he's been so kind to me, to the way he looks when he's happy, to even his 'hardcore' hobbies, he's just amazing.

"You're just a muffin, it's not my fault," he said with a smirk, making me smile mischievously in return. "Ohoho, you dare challenge me?" I said, lunging forward and tickling him furiously. "NO- STOP- HAHA- I GIVE I GIVE -" he yelled out, making me laugh. "Take it back! Say I'm not a muffin!" I yelled in response, him attempting to catch his breath. "YOU'RE - HAHA- NOT A - MUFFIN-" he finally got out, me immediately stopping tickling him.

"Thank you, kind sir. Now if you please excuse me, I am going to run before you get your revenge on me," I said before standing up and running, him standing up and soon following quickly behind me. "Oh you're not getting away-" he said, seemingly speeding up. "AHH- NO! YOU'RE NOT CATCHING UP TO ME!" I yelled, running faster around the perimeter.

I thought he gave up chasing me when I stopped hearing his footsteps behind me, but I was soon caught off guard by him cutting across the park grounds and tackling me from the side. He wrestled me onto the ground, pinning me there and not letting me move. "Okay okay you win! You win," I panted, out of breath from running.

He giggled as he rolled off of me, laying beside me on the grass. I smiled at what just happened, soon hearing the soft steps of a small dog walking up beside my head. "Well hello Rat," I said with a smile, seeing her lay down and curl up between our heads. "Did you tire yourself out chasing Rocco?" I asked her, soon hearing Rocco's paws thumping against the dirt as well. He came and laid down beside me, resting his head on his paws.

"Awe, good boy," I said with a hushed tone as I figured Rat was going to go to sleep.

People say love isn't as first sight. Sometimes love isn't even with a person. Sometimes love is platonic, sometimes it's romantic. I love my dog, I love my family, I love this moment, laying right here in this grass next to my soulmate with our dogs. Hell, I might even be falling in love with the person next to me. And you know what? That's okay. I'm glad it's him. I'll be happy to fall in love with this man beside me.

Even if he doesn't love me back.
