Ethan's POV
I woke up in a good mood today, but it instantly changed because I remembered what happened yesterday.
My mom finally told me how she's feeling. It made me extremely hurt and I couldn't believe she had hidden all of that from me and had to go through everything herself.
Still, despite everything, my mom had a smile on her face.
I sigh while I unlock my phone, and reply to all of the text messages.
I know it's not a good habit to use your phone once you wake up, but I'm still going to do it anyway.
I started yawning and finally decided to get out of bed.
I have an hour until I meet up with Rylee, but I'm going to go out a little bit early.
The reason is that I really want to buy the book she has been talking about.
I've done my research on it. I searched on google and almost saw a spoiler, but thankfully scrolled through before I could finish reading it.
Everyone on BookTok has been saying how good it was but, most importantly, how heartbreaking it was.
I go downstairs and see my mom already in the kitchen making herself a cup of tea.
When she sees me, she smiles, "good morning sweetheart,"
"Good morning, are you feeling better?" I asked.
"Definitely a lot better," she smiles sadly.
I kiss her on the forehead, "I love you and I need you to forget about everything for now,"
She nods and takes out a pan to make breakfast, but I stop her, "no mom it's okay don't make anything for me,"
"Honey you just woke up eat breakfast at least," she argued.
"I'm just going to drink a cup of coffee for now because I'm going to hang out with a friend," I stated.
She raises her eyebrows, "who's that friend you're hanging out with,"
I forgot to tell her about Rylee, didn't I?
"Umm...Rylee. I met her on the bus two weeks ago," She furrows her eyebrows and then instantly smiles.
"Mhmm Rylee. Well, that explains why you're in such a hurry," It's my turn to furrow my eyebrows, "When you hang out with your guy friends you're always late and you don't care if you're late or not, but now you're in a rush, and you look excited,"
Why is the room suddenly a lot warmer?
She is right, though, I am indeed excited to meet her.
It's not like I don't like my friends. I love them, we were close friends since kindergarten, but I don't care if I get there an hour or two late, but with her, that's a different story.
I like her as a friend, though my mom got it completely out of proportion.
Yeah, Ethan keep lying to yourself.
I try my best to ignore the thoughts in my head because somehow deep down I know it's true.
"You're wrong mom," but is she? Yes, of course, she is. Right? "I just wanted to drink a cup of coffee,"
But seriously, from all of the excuses I could say, I chose to say that.
She gives me this look, which scares me because I'm sure she can call out my bluff, and I tried to ignore it.
I start to sway slightly from side to side, and I'm going to try to get out of the kitchen, "look I'm just going to go upstairs and get dressed,"
My mom chuckles because she knows I'm starting to get flustered.
I groan walk out of the kitchen and walk up the stairs.
I sigh and open my closet. I picked up a white t-shirt with black sweatpants and my Addidas superstar cloud white.
We're going to the beach, and I don't think we will get into the water, but I'm going to wear my swimwear just in case.
I pack my gym bag with sunscreen and a towel. I'm going to go downstairs to get some snacks that I bought a few days ago.
I got my sunglasses, put them on top of my head, and walked back downstairs.
When I entered the kitchen I took out skittles, chips, and drinks for Rylee and I to snack on.
"Mom I'm going out now!" I yell, and my mom walks up to me
"Sure sweetheart don't be out too late though, and tell your friend I said hi," she winked, and I rolled my eyes.
She hits me lightly, "don't roll your eyes at me,"
I chuckle, and give her a hug, "Bye mother, love you,"
"Bye son," I put the bag over my shoulder and waved.
After I got out of the house, I walked up in front of my car to unlock it, and put my bag in the back seat.
After I got into the car, I put the keys in and started driving.
I started playing my playlist and when Rylee and I were texting, she sent me Run and Ew by Joji to listen to.
Safe to say, Rylee has an incredible taste in music.
While I was driving I saw the bookstore, so, I parked my car, got out of it, and entered the store.
I walked into it and of course, the sweet and musky smell of all the books was what hit me first.
I searched for it ends with us on google and saw the author.
Colleen Hoover.
I looked for her other books and found them, but I couldn't find It Ends With Us the one I'm looking for.
Where is it?
Until I finally found it, and it was the last one, that's why I didn't see it.
It seems like a good book for it to be sold out.
Well here goes nothing.
I walked up to the lady behind the counter, "good afternoon,"
"Good afternoon," she said with a smile, "is that it?"
I nod, "great that would be $16.99,"
I got my wallet and took my money out, while I did that, she put the book in the bag and gave it to me.
I thanked her and walked out of the bookstore.
Unlocking my car again, I get in and finally started driving until I reach the beach, which isn't far away from here.
I heard my phone ring, so I took my phone out and saw the caller.
Rylee
Once I saw her name, my heart started beating fast, so I took a deep breath and pressed the green button.
"Hey, Rylee how are you," I start.
